My 1-year-old dog has night anxiety. What are the best solutions?

Hello. I would start with an over the counter anxiety product like Zylkene. I would also start using a dog appeasing pheromone in the home ( room diffuser ) or it comes as a collar. The pheromone can calm an anxious dog without drugs. Adaptil is the name of this product. If this does not help over the course of a couple of weeks, you will need to talk to your vet about possible behavior modification therapy & the use of prescription medications like Trazodone. Hello. Much depends on what is the underlying cause of your pets anxiety. Noise phobias can sometimes respond to gradual conditioning to that noise. Training & training tools & toys can sometimes help with separation anxiety. Often, we turn to pharmaceuticals & supplements. I always recommend OTC products like Zylkene or Composure. These are natural supplements that contain ingredients that are not harsh or dangerous. CBD may help with anxiety, but you need to be sure the company you use has scientifically formulated their products to be sound. Yes, there are things you can use! I recommend a Sentry calming collar. It releases calming pheromones when in contact with a dog's skin. You can also use DAP diffuser, which releases these calming pheromones. Calming chews may also be an option for Bentley. I hope this helps!

Instead, I'd recommend calling your vet to see if they can prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, such as trazodone, alprazolam, or fluoxetine (although this one can take up to 2 months to reach peak efficacy). You can also work on helping Diesel to acclimate to these noises by short training sessions. For instance, sit beside the radiator with him when it's quiet while petting him and offering small, high value treats (peanut butter, canned cheese, or tiny pieces of meat work well for many dogs). When the radiator starts making noise, sit with him and again offer high value treats. Repeat this many times throughout the day to help him acclimate both to the quiet radiator and when it makes noise. The goal is ultimately for him to associate the radiator noise with a positive effect - the treat. This doesn't happen overnight and will take a lot of patience on your part, but it should be helpful in the end.
