Why is my cat's healing leg wound turning blue? Is it bruising?

That is a little bit concerning, especially since it seems like there is a distinct line of demarcation associated with the blue color. It's possible that there is not good blood flow to the skin in that area from the injury. Since it's difficult to evaluate based on a picture alone I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam in person - it's also possible that this is nothing to be too concerned about.

As long as there are no other bruises similar to this showing up anywhere else on the body, I would recommend keeping an eye on this for now. Unfortunately it's difficult to tell in your picture - there are multiple areas that appear discolored but I think it might just be the picture. If there are bruises that are not associated with an incision I'd recommend taking Jett to see a veterinarian - bruising can be a sign of a clotting disorder. If the bruising is right around the incision there might not be quite as much concern, although it would be quite delayed. If Jett is painful or the bruising around the incision is progressing I'd recommend seeing a vet.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The purple areas look like bruising that likely occurred due to trauma/pinching of the area during surgery. Bruising can worsen during the first 2-3 days following a procedure, so this is not abnormal to see at this time for Molly. This bruising should start to improve after another 1-2 days. I definitely recommend keeping Molly's Elizabethan collar (E-collar) on AT ALL TIMES until her sutures are removed by your veterinarian to prevent her from licking at the area and causing trauma/increasing the risk of an incisional infection. If the bruising worsens after day 3-4 post-op, and/or you notice yellow/thick, foul-smelling discharge, and/or if any of the sutures seem to have fallen out, I recommend having Molly seen by your veterinarian right away. However, with a history of possible trauma and the presence of blood then a fracture is possible. Just based on the presence of blood and the possibility of a fracture, I would highly recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Given there is no sign of infection, I'd monitor it for now. If it does appear infected (pus, redness, swelling, warmth to the touch), then I'd have him checked out by a vet. I hope this helps!

There was bruising and infection under the skin where you couldn’t see it. Now the overlying skin that has been damaged has opened up letting the infection drain out. Some of this skin will come off like a scab as the tissue heals underneath. This looks serious so I would clean these areas twice daily with hydrogen peroxide. If he stops eating or becomes lethargic please bring him in for an exam and treatment. He may need oral antibiotics if a fever develops.
