Why is my cat's healing leg wound turning blue? Is it bruising?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | 6 lbs

Two of my cats got in to it out of no where one day and one had a claw wound on her back leg. I have been keeping it clean and keeping an eye on it. It looks to be healing well but today I noticed the skin around the area is light blue and I’m a little freaked out. Everywhere else on her, even down the rest of the leg looks to be normal coloring. Why is this happening? Is this part of the healing process? It’s is bruising possibly?

Hello. Without a picture, I can not evaluate what you are seeing, but most likely you are correct & this is just bruising. Infection would take on a angry red color, so the light blue is nothing to be worried about. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
