Why is my cat still in pain when picked up after cystitis meds?

Any type of abdominal or muscular pain has to be suspected. Depending on what area of the body is painful, this can give you some clues as to what is causing the pain. If there are no obvious wounds on Izzie's skin then I would suspect an internal injury. It takes a lot for a cat to show pain so the fact that Izzie is this symptomatic should raise concern. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian asap so they can localize exactly where the pain is coming from and hopefully implement treatment for her. Don't be tempted to give her any human pain medication, because these are toxic in cats. She is best treated at the vet.

She probably has cystitis and not a UTI. It is not impossible that she has a UTI concurrently but I think cystitis is more likely. Antibiotics will not help that. She needs to be on pain meds and you need to de-stress the environment. Poor Felix, treatment of urinary obstruction will vary based on the doctor that is treating the patient. Is it possible that Felix maybe received pain mediation while he was in the hospital? Also some doctors do use steroids to decrease inflammation and he might of receive that in the hospital as well. IT is never wrong to contact your vet to specifically ask him about having pain medication at home incase Felix is acting painful. I hope that helps

There can be flareups, but typically it's a signal that she needs to be checked again. The main reason is that there is a concern anytime there is inflammation in the lower urinary tract that the cat can suffer from a urinary blockage and become unable to urinate. If Sgt. Jellybean is still successful at passing urine, it's not an emergency, but you do need to follow up. If she's still getting Metacam orally at home and is now again having trouble, it's a sign that the inflammation isn't properly resolving. I would also recommend having x-rays made to ensure that there are no urinary stones that could be intermittently causing a blockage, if this hasn't been done.

It is best to have him checked over to make sure that he is able to pass urine, or this could turn in a life threatening condition. It may be that he is painful or not feeling well and that's leading to him reacting in this way. Ideally, take him to your vet for an exam. However, if he is eating/drinking/acting normally it is reasonable to just keep a close eye on him and take him in if other symptoms develop. Make sure that his litter box habits are normal. (he is urinating and defecating normally). Please do not give him any over the counter pain medications as there are none available that are safe for cats.
