Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 14 lbs

My cat is being treated to what my vet thinks might be a uti with amoxicillin since Wednesday night ever 12 dose and my cat is still in the litter frequently with small amounts of pee I don’t see blood and she is also licking afterwards could this be something else or maybe not the right antibiotic?

She probably has cystitis and not a UTI. It is not impossible that she has a UTI concurrently but I think cystitis is more likely. Antibiotics will not help that.

She needs to be on pain meds and you need to de-stress the environment. This article has more in-depth information:

I strongly recommend you put some Feliway diffusers in your house and do some environmental enrichment for her. Usually these two things help too.
