My cat cries when picked up but seems fine. Should I see a vet?

Poor Star! This could be a sign of pain from his spine, neck, joints, or stomach. I would avoid picking him up for the rest of the evening, and then if he's still painful when you pick him up in the morning I would take him into the vet for a health check. Please do not give him any human pain medications as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given.

He is so cute! If your vet did not find any problems and he appears perfectly healthy then it is probably just the way he vocalizes and normal for him. Continue to monitor for any changes or abnormal behavior and recheck with your vet, if needed.

It is possible he has a source of pain and discomfort causing him distress and yes, I would recommend a full physical exam by your vet. Dental and bladder conditions are common causes of pain without obvious injury or sickness in cats and should be ruled out

You can probably wait until the morning to take him in to your regular vet. Just try to keep him calm and comfortable until then the best you can. If he starts crying out in pain for no reason, is vomiting without stopping, or having any bloody vomitus or diarrhea you should take him in tonight. Otherwise he will likely be ok until morning. This is definitely different behavior. I cannot say for sure what it is without seeing him and doing an exam on him. I would have your vet take a look at him to ensure he isn't in pain somewhere. I would also try to get a video of the behaviors so the vet can better understand what he is doing. This will help him make a diagnosis. If you are concerned about too much food, I would break up his meals to smaller more frequent meals throughout the day. I hope this helps!

Not sure if he goes outside but if he does I would suspect that he has been in a fight with another cat or wild animal and now has developed an infection/abscess. I would advise taking him to your vet immediately to get him evaluated. Not sure if he has a rabies shot either. Your vet can evaluate him after gathering a history and can advise you on what to do. If it's from a fight or bite wounds, he may have to be sedated to explore the injuries further. Treatment may include antibiotics, pain meds, etc. If a bone injury is suspected, x-rays may be needed. If a fight is suspected a rabies shot or booster may be advised also. Good luck with Squishy.

Any type of abdominal or muscular pain has to be suspected. Depending on what area of the body is painful, this can give you some clues as to what is causing the pain. If there are no obvious wounds on Izzie's skin then I would suspect an internal injury. It takes a lot for a cat to show pain so the fact that Izzie is this symptomatic should raise concern. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian asap so they can localize exactly where the pain is coming from and hopefully implement treatment for her. Don't be tempted to give her any human pain medication, because these are toxic in cats. She is best treated at the vet.
