Why is my cat's poop orange and liquidy after a UTI and antibiotics?

Hi there! That stool appears within the realm of normal. It does look a touch dry, so I'd monitor the cats for any signs of constipation and make sure they're both defecating regularly (at least once daily) and eating well. But I suspect it's normal. :-)

The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!

I would recommend a urinalysis to make sure the urinary tract infection is completely gone. I would even recommend a urine culture (although can be expensive) it will be a definitive answer. The culture will tell you what type of bacteria and what antibiotics are best. With regards to the stool, I would recheck a stool sample, put Chance on a bland diet and god from there. Sometimes antibiotics part the natural flora of the gut, you are doing the right thing in giving the probiotoc. It is difficult as obviously you want the uti to clear up, if Duck seems in good form otherwise and you can cope with the mess I would try and stick it out. If it gets really bad or continues a while see the vet.

Hi, it does sound like Chibi is having troubles passing urine. In terms of what you need to do, he needs to be seen by a vet his condition is classed as an emergency. The fact he can't urinate properly but just droplets and that he has retched and refused to eat, can indicate that the inability of pass urine is causing all the waste products to be reabsorbed in his blood. As time goes by he will progressively get worse, so I recommend you try to get hold of your vet explaining you think it is an emergency and 24 hours is too long to wait. Apart from offering water, he needs to have some treatment for urethral obstruction, there is nothing you can do at home apart from keeping him indoors, try to avoid unnecessary stress, make sure he is in a cool room.. and most importantly try to find a vet. If you have any antinflammatories, stop them for the time being as we think he might not be able to urinate and can make his kidneys worse as well as causing Gastro-intestinal issues.

This could be due to an infection that is resistant to the antibiotics being given or it could be something else like stones or a tumor. I highly recommend that you consider taking Tao to his veterinarian for reevaluation. Diagnostics that should be considered at this point include a urine culture to make sure that if there is an infection, you know which antibiotic would be best to use. Cats urine is normally very concentrated, so a dark orange color could be OK. With a UTI, they tend to urinate more frequently, urinate outside the box and sometimes strain to urinate. If you see him doing this, then he needs to see the vet. If anything else is concerning, then it's best to bring him to the vet and they can easily test the urine and examine Mookie for any other problems.
