My cat's poop is odd after UTI, new diet, and meds. Is it okay?

The difference in the stools are likely due to the diet change. Once his system gets used to the food they may normalize. The stool change doesn't have anything to do with the kidneys worsening or not. If the stools don't normalize I suggest you talk to your vet about this issue.

This just looks like soft stool with some mucus and blood in it which I don't think would be completely abnormal after being ill. If he is not feeling better after 2 days from the vet visit you need to take him back for a follow-up examination. This behavior would not normal after a urinary obstruction if it was treated promptly and resolved. I would be worried that maybe his kidneys sustained some damage due to the urinary obstruction.

It may be related to the recent stress of the infection or medications that were given. I would just keep an eye on it. If it continues for 24-48 hours or if Chibi develops additional symptoms, such as poor appetite or lethargy, I would definitely have him re-examined by the vet.

As long as she is defecating regularly and not straining the firm stool may not be a concern. It is a little unusual for a/d to be recommended as a maintenance diet - you may want to check with your vet and see if there is another diet that would be recommended for Hopper given her constipation. This diet is very nutritionally dense, so it's possible that she's just not making much stool. If she has been straining, or you feel her stool looks black and tarry I would recommend making a recheck appointment with your veterinarian.

I would recommend a urinalysis to make sure the urinary tract infection is completely gone. I would even recommend a urine culture (although can be expensive) it will be a definitive answer. The culture will tell you what type of bacteria and what antibiotics are best. With regards to the stool, I would recheck a stool sample, put Chance on a bland diet and god from there. The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!

A pasty stool can be from multiple things including parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, poor nutritional absorption, and more. I would first talk to your vet about bringing in a stool sample to test for parasites, giardia, and campylobacter. If everything is normal, you can try to put her on some oral probiotics to see if this helps to balance her stool. If not, I would have your vet do any exam and see if everything looks okay. They may suggest blood work and even a GI panel which tests for VitB12, folate, and 2 pancreatitic enzymes (PLI, TLI). I hope this helps!
