Why is my spayed cat's stool pasty a month after antibiotics?

3.5yr old female spayed cat having pasty stool since a month. No change in food. Had an UTI and given antibiotic shot a month back and been fine since then. Eats healthy and active.

A pasty stool can be from multiple things including parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, poor nutritional absorption, and more. I would first talk to your vet about bringing in a stool sample to test for parasites, giardia, and campylobacter. If everything is normal, you can try to put her on some oral probiotics to see if this helps to balance her stool. If not, I would have your vet do any exam and see if everything looks okay. They may suggest blood work and even a GI panel which tests for VitB12, folate, and 2 pancreatitic enzymes (PLI, TLI). I hope this helps!

Poor girl. It sounds like she had a bout of colitis (inflammation of the colon) at first causing the loose stool. This then could have caused bacterial translocation to the bladder causing a urinary tract infection. Another possible cause here is urinary incontinence, which is a spontaneous condition that occurs more commonly in middle to older female dogs.
It is good that her stool has returned back to normal for the time being. However, if the dribbling continues for more than 24 hrs, then its best to have your vet test her urine for an infection and treat accordingly (i.e. antibiotics).

I would consider at least starting her on over the counter probiotics (i.e. Culturelle at your local pharmacy) for now to help her overall.

The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!

Why is my cat straining with bloody diarrhea after tapeworm meds?

Poor girl. It sounds like she may have a bout of colitis (inflamed colon) which is common following a tapeworm infection. You can try treating her with probiotics, Culturelle over the counter, to see if this clears things up. You can also try adding in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in her food daily to add fiber and help bulk up her stools. I would also recommend feeding her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or tuna and white rice for about 7 days, and then slowly transitioning her back to her normal diet. If her diarrhea and straining does not improve within 3-4 days, then its best to take her to your vet who can test her stool and make sure there isn't something else going on. If it is just a bad case of colitis, then a short course of antibiotics will likely resolve things. Best wishes with Stockings and I hope she feels better soon. Take care.

Why hasn't my senior cat pooped in days after her medications?

I would not be overly worried about her not producing stools just yet. The metronidazole and the buprenorphine can both cause a decrease in gastric motility but moreso the buprenorphine. If she is still on the buprenorphine I would discontinue it unless you feel like she is still in a lot of pain. If she will eat it, you can offer her some canned pumpkin as that may help stimulate her GI tract. Pure canned pumpkin, not pie filling. About one teaspoon 2-3 times per day. I would also recommend you start her on a probiotic - one made for cats, not humans. I like this one but any one made for cats is fine. My spayed cat is not eating, lethargic, and has strange stool.

After 3 days, the recovery from anesthesia should be gone and she should be feeling like her old self and normal. For her to not have an appetite at this point is concerning something else is going on and it is not part of the surgery recovery. I would recommend taking her to a vet for a check up. They can take her temperature and make sure she is not dehydrated. They can see if there is an infection or a virus that is making her feel bad. Continue to do broth or you can try tuna or the juice to encourage her to keep fluids in until you get her seen. I would also try to keep the other cats away from her so she can rest.

Why is my cat still peeing and having diarrhea after UTI meds?

I would recommend a urinalysis to make sure the urinary tract infection is completely gone. I would even recommend a urine culture (although can be expensive) it will be a definitive answer. The culture will tell you what type of bacteria and what antibiotics are best. With regards to the stool, I would recheck a stool sample, put Chance on a bland diet and god from there. Why is my cat's loose stool bloody with increased thirst/appetite?

I suspect food allergy or IBD. I recommend you try the following: 1. Change the diet to Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. I have had a lot of luck with clients using this diet and it has really helped. Change the diet slowly over a week's time to prevent further GI upset. My cat has diarrhea sometimes but acts normal. What should I do?

Common causes of diarrhea or loose stools in a young cat include food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral gastroenteritis, stress colitis, among a few others. Based on her history, stress from the visit or a change in treats may be the cause. You can try a medication like ProPectalin AntiDiarrheal Gel for Dogs & Cats that has probiotics and a small amount of kao pectate in it - it also tastes good. If the diarrhea/soft stools continue next week, or if Pico starts showing signs of lethargy, inappetence, or straining, I would definitely have her checked out by a vet.
