Cats not pooping after diarrhea & fast. Should I be concerned?

Hi there. After an episode of diarrhea, it's common for a cat to not poop for a day or two, since it takes time for the intestine to fill up again with solid stool. So if she's acting normal otherwise (eating and drinking, not vomiting, active, etc.), I wouldn't be concerned - she'll poop when she's ready :)

It is very common for a cat to not have any bowel movement for a couple of days after having diarrhea because it takes time for stool to build up again in the colon after an episode of diarrhea. I would be concerned if she is straining to defecate without producing any stool, vomiting or not eating. If everything seems normal other than the lack of stool production, then I would just give it a little more time. My guess is that she will pass some stool tonight or tomorrow. If she has not passed stool by tomorrow night, I would have her examined on Friday before going into the weekend. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. IT is possible that Myrtle is not passing stool is secondary to the diarrhea. Sometimes after a few days of diarrhea it will take a few days for fecal material to build back up in the colon and produce a normal bowel movement. I would not be concerned if Myrtle does not defecate for a few days as long as she is eating and playing. Typically I would recommend picking 1 food and sticking with it. switching foods can cause diarrhea/soft stool. Some cats are picker than other about the food or dry vs wet. I would recommend feeding whatever you find Myrtle likes to eat. hope that helps

I'm so sorry to hear that Percy developed diarrhea. It is very common for cats to not defecate for a period of 24-72 hours after having diarrhea. It takes some time for stool to build up again after an episode of diarrhea. So, as long as Percy is eating well, acting normally and not straining to defecate, I would not worry about the lack of stool for 24 hours. I would be sure to have your veterinarian check a stool sample if that has not already been done. Once he does pass normal stool, you can slowly (over a period of 3-4 days) transition him back to his normal diet. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. I'm sorry Leyla hasn't been well! Given that she had diarrhea, it's not surprising that she hasn't passed a stool today. You often see a period where a cat won't pass feces after having diarrhea, and I wouldn't be too concerned about that just yet. As for not urinating, she could be dehydrated from the diarrhea and sickness, and I would add some low sodium chicken broth in with her chicken to get more moisture into her. You can also offer her some wet food. If she still hasn't peed by tomorrow, then I would be more concerned and take her back into the vet right away. I hope this helps and she feels better soon!

You should not be worried yet, after several days of diarrhea, the intestines empty completely and it takes 2-4 days to start and having stools again, as long as he is otherwise back to normal that's the most important thing. Flagyl also tends to cause slight constipation, but again nothing to be worried about just yet.
