My cat hasn't peed in 24 hours but seems fine. What can I try?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9.5 lbs

My female cat hasn't peed in 24hrs. She appears to be drinking, eats her wet and dry food like normal. She appears to be fine. I usually only find 1-2 clumps of pee a day in her litterbox. I cannot afford a vet visit, so if there is anything I can try first before resorting to that

Hello. I hesitate to recommend anything just yet since you say she seems to be fine. If she was unable to urinate, she would be crying, painful, trying to posture & strain to urinate in the litter box. Unfortunately, it may be possible that she is urinating elsewhere, perhaps in the back of a closet or on a pile of laundry. I assume she is also an indoor only cat. Just watch her for now, & if there are any indications that she is having difficulties in the litter box, or she seems to be licking her vaginal area excessively, try to push fluids to her by adding a little extra water to her canned food ( remove the dry for now ) & encouraging her to drink by offering low sodium broths or stock along with very fresh water. It could be Mia is suffering from feline idiopathic cystitis or bladder stones causing these issues. I would take her into a vet immediately. The vet can diagnose what is causing these problems, and can prescribe treatment for her. Best of luck.

tapeworms are not likely to be the cause, the hyperthyroidism though can be related, maybe you need to take her to the vet to have her thyroid levels checked, she may need an adjustment for her treatment.

The symptoms of inappropriate urination and peeing frequently in small amounts are signs of urinary tract infection. These are common in pets, especially female cats. I would recommend taking Kara to your local vet to have her urine tested. If she does have an uncomplicated UTI, then a short course of antibiotics should clear up the infection soon. Until you can get her in to be seen by your vet, you should try keeping her litterbox cleaned frequently and also consider adding in another litterbox that is easily acccesible to her. You can also pick up her water at night, and then placing it back out in the morning. I wish you all the best and hopefully you can get Kara feeling better soon. Take care.

An exam and testing may diagnose another urinary tract infection or a urinary obstruction. Blood work can be submitted to assess major organ function, especially kidney function. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

My cat has UTI symptoms and isn't peeing. What should I do now?

That sounds worrisome that she is either not producing urine or that she is unable to urinate. Both of these conditions are serious. I recommend to play it safe and to have Layla examined today. You may need to get her in with another clinic or even an emergency clinic. The doctor will need to palpate her bladder and run bloodwork and a urinalysis. It's best to play it safe. My cat hasn't urinated all day. Should I be worried about her health?

As long as Nancy does not repeatedly go into her litter box trying to urinate and not producing any urine, I would not worry about it yet. If she tries to urinate often and there is no urine, then she may have a UTI and needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam. She will also need to be seen by a vet if she does not produce any urine at all by tomorrow.

My cat hasn't peed in 3 days, rubs rear, but acts normal. Is she sick?

If Masha hadn't urinated at all in three days, she would likely be in a considerable amount of pain, or be extremely ill. By your description, it does not sound like either of these are the case thankfully. She may be experiencing some vaginitis or inflammation of the urinary tract. While these conditions can be caused by a pathogen, many times in cats they are sterile, and the cause is thought to be environmental / stress induced. With her being 9 years old and having issues with her urinary system in general, it is probably a reasonable plan to have her checked by your local vet to make sure there isn't some other disease process occurring in conjunction with the symptoms you are noting at home. The lethargy you are seeing indicates a problem as well. My advice is to monitor her tonight, and if she is still lethargic in the morning, hasn't peed, and/or still hasn't pooped, take her into a vet first thing. I hope this helps!
