My cat is peeing for a long time. Should I worry if no other symptoms?

No this would not be completely normal and may be an indication of urinary tract inflammation. Increasing water/fluid intake by feeding a wet food is very helpful and ensure any dry food is formulated to reduce crystals and urinary issues such as a specialist neutered cat or urinary formula. Monitor closely for any pain, discomfort, increased frequency or blood which would need veterinary treatment. Severe cases can end up with complete obstruction so prevention is best

Cat's are good at concentrating their urine and holding it for long periods of time. The only time I would get concerned about them not being able to urinate is in cases of an obstruction, or acute renal failure. In both cases there would be other signs. In renal failure they would act sick - less active, not eating, vomiting. In cases of obstruction the cat would be restless and seen straining to urinate throughout the day. If Theo is otherwise acting normal, then I wouldn't be worried. If he does show any of the signs above, then it would be an emergency and I'd reccomend taking him to the vet as soon as possible. As long as Nancy does not repeatedly go into her litter box trying to urinate and not producing any urine, I would not worry about it yet. If she tries to urinate often and there is no urine, then she may have a UTI and needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam. She will also need to be seen by a vet if she does not produce any urine at all by tomorrow.

Hello. I hesitate to recommend anything just yet since you say she seems to be fine. If she was unable to urinate, she would be crying, painful, trying to posture & strain to urinate in the litter box. Unfortunately, it may be possible that she is urinating elsewhere, perhaps in the back of a closet or on a pile of laundry. I assume she is also an indoor only cat. Just watch her for now, & if there are any indications that she is having difficulties in the litter box, or she seems to be licking her vaginal area excessively, try to push fluids to her by adding a little extra water to her canned food ( remove the dry for now ) & encouraging her to drink by offering low sodium broths or stock along with very fresh water. It is not uncommon when pets have not been eating or drinking well to have more extended time between visits to the box. It your kitty was a bit dehydrated from being sick this will also mean less urine in the box too. As it seems that your kitty is feeling better with the care your vet provided i would give it a little time. If he or she is eating then things should normalize. If he or she starts to feel sick again then dehydration may make things worse, and a recheck with your vet is then advised. That sounds worrisome that she is either not producing urine or that she is unable to urinate. Both of these conditions are serious. I recommend to play it safe and to have Layla examined today. You may need to get her in with another clinic or even an emergency clinic. The doctor will need to palpate her bladder and run bloodwork and a urinalysis. It's best to play it safe.
