Why is my cat not acting normal after a lion cut at the groomer?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 18 lbs

I took my cat to the groomers they gave him a lion cut I noticed that they cut the hair on the bottom of his feet they gave him an aesthetics and he hasn't been acting normal every sense any suggestions

It's difficult to say whether or not the visit to the groomer could be related to his current clinical signs. Many animals can pick up a bug at the groomer due to the all the different animals going in and out of those areas. It can also be extremely stressful for animals, cats in particular. Stressed out animals have a lowed immune system, making them more susceptible to catching something. I would also do a very thorough check of him to make sure the groomer didn't accidentally cut him or cause him pain on any part of the body. Check the bottoms of the feet as well since you were mentioned them as an area the groomer was working on. From the picture, it also looks like Fella's tummy is really round, It could just be the angle or his weight, but this would be another area that might be worth looking at it if you decide to visit a vet about his current issue.

Your groomer gave him an anesthetic? Unfortunately I hope that isn't true as it would be illegal. Maybe your veterinarian prescribed a sedative tablet? Either way, you might want to call and find out what the medication is. If he was medicated, it can be normal to act "out of it" a bit that evening. If he is still acting like that tomorrow, I would take him in. And if your groomer gave him medications not directed by the veterinarian, I would let your veterinarian know.

It is possible - many cats are sensitive to changes like this. As long as he is eating and drinking I would wait a day or two to see if his behavior goes back to normal. If his behavior is abnormal for more than 48 hours or you notice any other signs like vomiting or diarrhea I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to make sure everything okay. You could also ask the groomer if anything out of the ordinary happened this time when he was groomed - if he was particularly anxious he might benefit from a sedative before his next appointment.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Simba! He sure does look handsome though! I see the thick drool you are referring to. Was Simba sedated for the lion cut? If he was that could explain the lethargy, not eating and the drool as anesthesia can make them feel weird and nauseous. It can take 24 hours for that to resolve. Otherwise check his skin all over for any clipper burn that could be making him uncomfortable. I would assume that he should feel much better with in 24 hours. If he doesn't by Saturday morning make an appointment with your Vet before they close for the weekend for an exam. I wish Simba the best!

Why is my cat lethargic, grooming, and not playful after vet check?

Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.

Cat still distant, litter issues, overgrooming after vet visit?

I recommend to have Chub examined by the veterinarian again. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it often means the real underlying cause of the illness has not be discovered. Chub will likely need some diagnostics like bloodwork and checking her bladder for infection. It's possible these symptoms are not related but you need diagnostics to know. My dog is distressed after grooming. Should I be worried about him?

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Sunny. It does appear that he is upset from his grooming session. These are symptoms of anxiety and potentially pain. If he keeps this up for more than 12 hrs, then I would get concerned and recommend taking him in to your vet for a thorough exam. His nicked toe may be the source of the pain. If he is painful, then your vet can prescribed pet friendly pain medication for him to hopefully subside his anxiety. In the meantime you can do a thorough examination yourself at home, to see you can locate any bleeding areas or trauma to his skin. You can also just give him a warm water Epsom salt bath to help ease any tenderness he may be having. I hope that Sunny feels better soon and hopefully you can find a groomer that Sunny will be happy with in the future. Best of luck. Take care.

Why is my cat losing hair and getting bald spots after neuter surgery?

What you describe certainly is not normal after a minor surgery such as a neuter. However, I am suspicious that he may have a skin infection, ringworm, or even possibly mites. Sometimes if they have a minor infection or mites then the stress of surgery can cause it to get worse. I would highly encourage you to schedule him a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to determine what is causing the skin problem. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Dog shaking, hiding, and rear discomfort after a short groom?

A lot of dogs feel "ashamed" after a radical hair cut. It also feels so different , and probably smells different and they do not understand what happened. So that is likely one reason why he is irritated. As for him looking back at his bum....unfortunately many groomers offer the service of "emptying anal glands", but do not do this properly, so often the anal glands would be irritated at best, or bruised at worst. It is possible that they are hurting. If this does not go away by tomorrow, I suggest you have them checked by your vet to make sure they were not damaged in the process.
