Why is my cat sad, drooling, and not eating after a lion cut?

Hello. I am sorry Simba is not feeling well. It is possible that Simba was incubating, or had a low-grade infection. The allergy shot was actually a steroid injection that lowers the ability of the immune system to respond to an infection, essentially making the infection worse. So, this is not a behavior change, Simba just is under the weather. Hopefully, the antibiotics will keep things from getting worse, but if Simba does not pick up in a couple of days, please call your veterinarian. He may need a change in antibiotics, or be placed on an antiviral medication. As long as he is eating a little each day, he will be OK, but if he refuses all food, have him seen as soon as possible. Aw poor Simba! I'm sorry to hear he's sick! It would be a good idea to have him checked out by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an intestinal obstruction, infection, or other cause of vomiting and decreased appetite. He may need injections to stop his vomitng and fluids to rehydrate him. I'm concerned that 4 days of not eating can cause serious illness in a cat so the sooner he sees a veterinarian the better. It's difficult to say whether or not the visit to the groomer could be related to his current clinical signs. Many animals can pick up a bug at the groomer due to the all the different animals going in and out of those areas. It can also be extremely stressful for animals, cats in particular. Stressed out animals have a lowed immune system, making them more susceptible to catching something. I would also do a very thorough check of him to make sure the groomer didn't accidentally cut him or cause him pain on any part of the body. Check the bottoms of the feet as well since you were mentioned them as an area the groomer was working on. From the picture, it also looks like Fella's tummy is really round, It could just be the angle or his weight, but this would be another area that might be worth looking at it if you decide to visit a vet about his current issue.

Poor Simba! There are many things that can cause cats to stop eating, so I wouldn't necessarily assume this is due to a hairball. Simba could have a GI problem like pancreatitis or an intestinal obstruction, a systemic illness such as liver or kidney disease, or may have ingested something toxic. If he hasn't been eating since Tuesday, this is very concerning and warrants an immediate vet visit. If your regular veterinarian isn't open, then I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic today to be seen. The veterinarian there can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.

Hair loss can have many causes in cats- skin infection such as a bacterial infection, allergy such as to food or a flea allergy (especially if Simba is not on any flea preventative) or fungal infection like ringworm can all be causes. Sometimes anxiety can cause cats to lick off their fur but this is typically a diagnosis that is made after all other health conditions are ruled out first. The weight loss could be due to due to simply eating less (this would be a good thing if Simba was previously overweight). Of course, weight loss can also be caused by many different underlying health condition such as certain infections, hyperthyroidism, liver, kidney disease, certain cancers and other endocrine disease. I would recommend Simba see his veterinarian soon for an evaluation. Your veterinary may take a skin scraping and hair sample from the area of hair loss and may recommend running blood work or other diagnostics as necessary. I hope this helps!

With older cats, it sometimes can take a couple of days for them to recover from anesthesia, depending on the medications that were used. Did Squeak have any bloodwork run before his procedure? If he had an underlying kidney or liver issue, it could explain some of the signs that you are seeing now. If he is still on pain medications for his tooth extraction, it could also be that he is weak if the medication is affecting him strongly. If he hasn't had bloodwork done, I would recommend checking his liver and kidney function, as well as screening for diabetes, all of which could be adversely affecting him. Additionally, there are appetite stimulants for cats that can be given post-surgery to help kickstart them into eating normally again. I would recommend Squeak be re-evaluated by his veterinarian and have any testing done that may be necessary to start treatment to get him back on track. Good luck!

I'm so sorry that Simba is not going well. You didn't mention how long ago he might have ingested the soap. We will see mostly GI signs (vomiting and diarrhea) with most soap ingestions, but some soaps have ingredients that cause damage to the lining of the GI tract and can require much more intensive treatment. I would recommend contacting a poison control center with the exact ingredients in the soap and see if they can tell you how worried you need to be about the soap ingestion. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Since Simba is a kitten, he needs to be taken to a vet right away if he isn't eating or drinking. Kittens can get dehydrated very quickly, which can be very dangerous. Good luck!
