Why does my cat meow and cry when I shower? Is he stressed or curious?

Cats do not like being left out of things, so if you are going into another room, he wants to come as well! It could be related to stress associated with the move to your new home but could also be caused by some dementia due to his age. She loves you. Cats are, contrary to common opinion, not solitary animals. Cats love their owners, some more , some less and some get so attached that they do not want to be separated from their "mommy". I have one like that too. She always has to be around me and when I am not in sight or away she meows and looks for me (with a sock in her mouth....)

It sounds like a stressful time at your house. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. It is very common for cats to want to explore their surroundings. This is especially true of in tact animals. Often, neutering a cat will make him less interested in escape. The crying and trying to escape will also be much worse if there is a female in heat anywhere in your neighborhood. If this is the case, It will not stop until her is neutered or the female cat leaves. If it’s really important that Lumi stay in your room, try making your room appealing by adding a cat tower or high shelf for him to climb up to, fun toys, a scratching post, or an indoor cat garden (potted edible plants that are safe for cats to eat). If only Cas could talk! It’s hard to know why this is happening. It’s possible he is seeing another cat or an animal outside or that perhaps a cat is spraying by the door and he can smell it. He may also be restless and need stimulation. Cats can become more vocal when they are in discomfort. Monitor him very closely for any changes in behavior (eating, drinking, urinating, defecating....etc) as this could indicate a medical cause. You may also just play it safe and have him examined by the veterinarian. The doctor may wish to check his urine as crystals in the urine can be a source of discomfort that may not show many clinical signs. At home you can try a daily vigorous play session for 30 minutes, offering him climbing opportunities such as shelving units or a tall cat tree, a pheromone diffuser and wiping it down the doorway with a cleaning solution.
