Why is my cat's meow different? What does abnormal vocalization sound like?

Maude is so cute! It's hard to say what is going on with her as these signs could be nothing to worry about or they could be early signs of an illness. Sometimes the pitch of the meow will change with inflammation, a growth or infection in or near the vocal cords. Excessive meowing can also be a sign of pain or anxiety. IT is possible Norman is trying to communicate with you he is not feeling well. I would recommend continue to monitor his behavior. If he is eating,drinking and using his litter box well I would just keep a close eye on him. However if he stops eating, has vomiting/diarrhea or continues to vocalized I would take him to a vet for an exam. Sometimes a vet can find an issue on a exam that we cannot detect at home.

I wouldn't be concerned if this is how he has always sounded. Upper respiratory infections are very common in young kittens and sometimes swelling can affect the vocal folds - it's possible that he had some scar tissue formed. It's also possible that this is how he was born. If he does have trouble swallowing or breathing, or if he regurgitates or vomits you should see your vet.
