Cat licking red neuter area, seems in pain. Should I call the vet?

Unfortunately, there is very little you can do in terms of pain management for a cat at home, as far over the counter medications. They are all dangerous and ineffective. A cat neuter is a typically very simple, quick, and free of complications. So, if he is experiencing this type of reaction now post-operatively, I would be concerned and get him back to whoever performed the procedure. If you take him to an emergency clinic now, they'll be able to do the same and get him medications that will help calm him down, and hopefully make him feel better. The one thing you can try to do if he'll allow it is, if the area where he was operated looks swollen, you can try icing it. Hope this makes sense.

Oh Chandler, what a naughty kitty. They are so good at removing their cone! It looks like there is a little prolapsed tissue there likely from where he opened the incision. As long as he keeps his cone on overnight it will likely be okay to see you vet tomorrow. They can then make sure he doesn't need a suture and/or antibiotics. Excessive drooling can be a sign of nausea, dental problems, or pain. It's good that his surgical site looks look and everything else appears normal. I do think having Carl seen by a vet in the morning is a good idea, and tonight keep an eye on him. Try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) to see if that helps settle his stomach in case he is nauseous. Keep him in a quiet room for him to rest, and please do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. If he develops other signs such as anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme lethargy, I would take him into an ER vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It looks like Mordred may have been pulling out her sutures. In 2 pictures there are 3 while in the third picture there are only two. I would recommend taking her back to the veterinarian to have them evaluate her and also recommend getting her an elizabethan collar. Typically after this procedure, it is best to keep them quiet for about 10 days but cats are hard to keep quiet so we do the best we can to help them recover. Not sure what that is precisely or if it's related to surgery but it definitely requires vet attention by tomorrow. Until then, either place a cone on your kitty to prevent self mutilation or use some sort of onesie. If neither are available you will need to manually continue to discourage this sort of behavior. The area may been to be closed up, and antibiotics and pain meds will likely be prescribed.

Hello. Most cats do very well after surgery, so as long as Haiku does not get too active tearing through the house, he can pretty much do his usual routine. There are no special requirements to aid in his healing other than to check the area for anything that looks unusual. He can clean the surgical area & will not harm anything. I would continue his pain medications at least for a day or so to make sure he has a normal recovery. If anything does concern you, contact your veterinarian immediately.
