Why is my cat drooling excessively after his neuter surgery?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

Hi. My male cat was neutered last Wednesday. He's been doing well but today he suddenly started to drool excessively. I thought maybe he was in pain or had an infection. I check the surgery site and everything seems to be normal. He still runs are and lets me pet him, but the onky problem is all the saliva. He doesnt have a fever and he's not cold. I'm planning on taking him to the vet in the morning, but do you have any idea what could be wrong with him?

Excessive drooling can be a sign of nausea, dental problems, or pain. It's good that his surgical site looks look and everything else appears normal. I do think having Carl seen by a vet in the morning is a good idea, and tonight keep an eye on him. Try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) to see if that helps settle his stomach in case he is nauseous. Keep him in a quiet room for him to rest, and please do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. If he develops other signs such as anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme lethargy, I would take him into an ER vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

The drooling can be a sign of nausea in cats, but given that Rex hasn't had a change in activity, appetite, or anything else, I would keep an eye on him for now. It could be chewing on those plants has upset his stomach, and I would keep them out of reach. Try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he's still drooling in another 24 hours after being on this diet or anything else changes from the normal, then I would have him seen by a vet.

My neutered dog is warm, drooling, sleepy a week after. Is it normal?

Great question! I would take him into the Humane Society to have his incision examined. Call first to make sure the vet is available. While some irritation can be normal, it's not normal for him to feel warm and be more lethargic than usual. Drooling excessively isn't normal either, than could be due to nausea. I wouldn't expect to see these signs a week after being neutered, so a check with the vet is best. I hope this help!

Cat licking red neuter area, seems in pain. Should I call the vet?

It is very hard to give much advice without seeing a photo. However, based on what you said though, I would suggest you take Noodle back for a recheck exam. He may have gotten razor burn from the surgical shaving and that may be making him uncomfortable. There is nothing you can give him over the counter. Cats are EXTREMELY sensitive to over the counter medications and you can do some serious damage to them by giving something. I will typically treat with anti-nausea medication to see if it helps. If not, make sure that he is not eating anything that he shouldn't (plants, etc). Why is my cat still vomiting days after neutering surgery and eating?

Is he still on the antibiotics? If so maybe you could call and request a different medication? If he is no longer taking the medication and he is still vomiting then she should have a follow up appointment. It is possible that it is just coincidental with the neutering and he could have a foreign body in his stomach, or a parasite causing him to vomit. They may want to do an x-ray and/or some blood work. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
