My cat licked Revolution flea medicine. Is it safe and effective?

Revolution is a very safe product for cats. It should be applied according to directions. You can use it every 30 days. You place the medication topically at the base of the neck. Most cats cannot lick it at that location. However if she does lick a little it will not cause her harm. I actually use it on my own cats.

It is never recommended to use expired medications. It may not work or can make your pet ill. Purchase new medication from your veterinarian. Apply it a few days before or after bathing. Vacuum everywhere the cat has been and wash all bedding in hot water. Use a feline safe area treatment to prevent reinfestation and treat your cat for a minimum of 3 months, preferably year round.

You part the hair between the shoulder blades and squeeze the content of the little tube onto the skin that is showing. Do not rub it in. If you put it into the proper place Lassie will not be able to reach it and lick the area. Should she be a contortion artist and reach the area anyway, you can put a t-shirt on her for a few hours to keep her from licking. It will not make them sick if they get some of the medication in their mouth, but we want it to work in the skin and not in the gut.

You received a highly effective preventive medication which also covers mites besides the ones you mentioned. Realize that your kitties probably are stressed out with the two moves, one away from the person they loved (yes hoarder kitties are loved too, and love their owner) to the shelter and then from the shelter to you. Give them lots of TLC and they will get used to their new home soon.

Hi there! The product you placed on her has a few essential oils in it but nothing else. These are generally not toxic but could cause an upset stomach if ingested. The only worry I would have is the product not working as non of these oils in the product are efficacious in treating and preventing fleas in cats. I would try a Rx from your veterinarian. If Bell appears very irritated with the product on her, then I'd give her a bath to wash off the oils. A product called Revolution or Comfortis works very well. You may to ask your vet about getting Bell on either one of those or something similar.

I can understand your concern here. It is likely going to still be effective b/c it will soak down to his actual skin. Plus there is a range for this product so even if most gets on the haircoat, it is usually going to still be effective. Worst case scenario is that it will lose some of its effectiveness around week 2-3 at which point you can safely apply an additional dosage. Colby should be fine, especially since you washed it off quickly. I would probably wait two weeks to apply his Revolution. Watch him for any side effects like neurological issues, vomiting or seizures just in case. I hope this helps.
