Can hand sanitizer poison my cat? What if my senior cat licked it?

Katrina most likely will be fine. I can't imagine she ingested enough to be toxic. Just monitor her closely to be sure she is eating and drinking OK and her normal active self. These chemicals can cause oral ulcerations (sores in her mouth) which may make her not want to eat. If you are worried about her you can always take her to your vet for an exam.

If you did not see them drink the alcohol, it is very likely that the small amount that was covering the bottom of the cup just evaporated. Alcohol tends to evaporate quite quickly at room temperature. Alcohols, when ingested, can cause metabolic disturbances and neurological side effects. Hello. If Mew is not having any digestive problems at this time, including no vomiting, diarrhea & he still has an appetite, he should be just fine. Washing him as soon as you discovered what happened was the best thing to do. Now, it is just a matter of making sure he continues to eat & drink. The ingredients can cause some irritation if swallowed, so offering things like broth & milk to drink plus warmed canned cat food is appropriate. I would not worry about petting your puppy after using hand sanitizer. The amount of alcohol that would be on your hands after this would be very minimal. Unless your dog licked a large amount hand sanitizer directly out of the bottle it shouldn't be a concern!

Hello. Cats are very curious, but very careful when tasting new things. It is very unlikely that she got more that a small lick begore deciding this was pretty nasty stuff. Essential oils can be toxic to cats, the problem occurs when people mistakenly apply them to a pet, & then a cat is almost forced to lick her coat. Those are the most common signs for phenol poisoning: Panting, hyperactivity, restlessness, apprehension, drooling, vomiting, dark mucous membranes, green or black urine, ataxia, muscle tremors, shock, abnormal heart rhythm, and coma. if your cat has any of these symptoms, take him to the vet urgently.
