My cat licked Clorox hand sanitizer off her paws. Is it safe?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the floor looked dry I am sure she is fine. I do not think she needs to see a vet. If you want to rinse her mouth out well with water as a precaution and wipe her paws well with water to prevent any more possible ingestion that isn't wrong. If she becomes lethargic, drools, won't eat or in anyway appears abnormal then bring her to the Vet. But based on your description I think she will be fine. Maybe have a discussion with your roommate about this so it won't happen again. I hope this helps!

Most of the floor cleaners used nowadays are not heavily toxic and if your kitty just licked a small amount off his feet he shouldn't have any long term effects. Occasionally we may see some stomach upset or irritation to the mouth. I would offer him some food and just monitor him for vomiting and excessive drooling. If you notice any abnormal behaviors then you can bring him in for an exam. As I said, most floor cleaners will dry quickly and won't be harmful unless the pet is licking large volumes up, but if you want to be extra cautious you can mix vinegar with water to make a cleaning solution (though you can't use this on wood floors).

Cleaning solutions are usually irritating to the stomach and intestines, but don't tend to cause much internal toxicity besides that. If she is eating, drinking and acting normally, then I would not be too concerned. She may have diarrhea for a day or two also, but this is OK. If she continues to vomit for more than 24 hours, has diarrhea for more than three days, or is not eating, drinking and acting normally, then I recommend taking her to the vet. Otherwise, I think it will be safe for her to stay home under observation for the time-being. I hope that helps and all is well with Lily.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Beeloo. If a cat consumed a significant amount of hand sanitizer, it would be toxic. The high alcohol content will result in drunken behavior, sleepiness and likely vomiting. However, this would not likely be seen from sniffing your hands or you petting him after applying it to your hands. I suspect that there is another illness causing the symptoms. I’d just watch her for now, and check her mouth to make sure there are no burns in it. If you see burns, take her into a vet immediately. If you see excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty eating, or lethargy, have her seen by a vet. You did the right thing by giving her milk. I hope this helps.

It sounds like you have taken the appropriate precautions and it should be just fine. Symptoms of cleaner ingestion may include: excessive drooling, vomiting, and/or a decrease in appetite. If any of this occurs for Mirz, please seek veterinary care. But once again, I do not think you have much to be concerned about after all you have done.

Dettol can be toxic to cats when ingested but if she only licked a small amount then she might be fine. At this point, continue to monitor her for any abnormal signs, including vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, lethargy, and decreased appetite. If you notice anything abnormal then have your vet examine her. Also, make sure to wash her paws to remove any remaining chemicals.
