What if my cat drank rubbing alcohol? What symptoms should I watch for?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6.5 lbs

I’m worried one of my cats drank rubbing alcohol. I just noticed the cup was dry. It only had enough in it to cover the bottom. There are 2 cats and both are acting normal. What should I watch for? Can I do anything right now? The emergency vet is 45 minutes away and it’s pouring down rain. Here is a photo with the size of the cup. It was there for at least 6 hours. Could it have evaporated? It was just a thin layer, enough to cover a needle.

If you did not see them drink the alcohol, it is very likely that the small amount that was covering the bottom of the cup just evaporated. Alcohol tends to evaporate quite quickly at room temperature. Alcohols, when ingested, can cause metabolic disturbances and neurological side effects. If you are concerned, you can call ASPCA poison control hotline for more information. If you are unsure as to whether or not they drank the alcohol, you could monitor for symptoms and if you begin to notice them being lethargic, vomiting, acting strange, then I would recommend taking them in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello, thank you for your question. Labs can be so mischievous! Based on your description I think that your dogs should be ok. If dogs ingest a large amount of alcohol they can experience side effects. However I believe that the small amount should not cause sever symptoms. I would recommend monitoring your dogs overnight, if at anytime they became unsteady on their feet or weak I would have them seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

My dog licked alcohol from an open frozen drink. Will he be okay?

Your dog licking a very small amount of alcohol should not cause him any serious harm, although depending on the alcohol content it may cause him to become slightly drunk. This can cause wobbliness/ataxia, lethargy, vomiting. If you notice any of these signs, he should be seen by a veterinarian. Is alcohol in my cat's eye dangerous? Will it damage her sight?

Your poor kitty! Yes, alcohol in the eye is dangerous because it can cause severe irritation, discharge, rubbing of the eye, which in turn can lead to a corneal ulcer. I would see if she will allow you to rinse her eye again with cool water, and keep close watch on her eye. If you see any redness, she starts rubbing at it, the eye appears swollen, or there is any discharge, take her into a vet right away. Hopefully, however, she didn't get any in her eye and she is fine. In the future, do not use alcohol on her scratches. Not only does it burn, but it can be harmful to her. It's safe to clean any scratches with warm water and antiseptic soap. I hope this helps, good luck!

My dog ate an isopropyl alcohol prep pad. What symptoms to watch for?

The isopropyl alcohol is unlikely to cause a problem, and if the prep pad was small and made out of paper-like material it shouldn’t cause a problem in the gastrointestinal tract either. You should watch for vomiting or diarrhea but I doubt C will have any issues.
