My puppy ate hand sanitizer and is panting. What should I do now?

I would not worry about petting your puppy after using hand sanitizer. The amount of alcohol that would be on your hands after this would be very minimal. Unless your dog licked a large amount hand sanitizer directly out of the bottle it shouldn't be a concern!

Wash the area thoroughly to remove any residue, but there shouldn't be any problem unless he ingests a sizeable amount. The alcohol will disinfect and the aloe can help soothe it. I don't recommend using it in the future, mild soap and water is fine for cleaning minor wounds, just make sure to thoroughly remove all traces of soap so it doesn't irritate the skin..

The high alcohol content will result in drunken behavior, sleepiness and likely vomiting. However, this would not likely be seen from sniffing your hands or you petting him after applying it to your hands. I suspect that there is another illness causing the symptoms. Parvovirus infection is unfortunately very common in her breed. So I suspect her veterinarian will test her stool for the virus. Hi, I would recommend that you have her checked over as symptoms related to toxins can take a while to show and once you have symptoms the condition is much more difficult to treat. In particular I am worried about mouldy food. I have had a dog that suffered prolonged seizures and his temperature was very high for a long time and sadly did not recover. Another dog last week was fine for a day after eating a rotten chicken, but then went down hill and had severe signs of central nervous system disease and twitching because of the toxins. If he ingested a toxic amount, signs may include vomiting with or without blood, retching, abdominal pain, central nervous system (CNS) depression, decreased respiratory rate, and coma. He may appear drunk and the breath often has an alcohol odor. If you see any of these signs or are concerned about Rocket, he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible for treatment.
