My cat licked DEET bug spray. Why is she drowsy? Should I be worried?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think it is fine if they sit on your lap after you come inside. Unless you saturate yourself and are still damp with spray they should be fine. Your pets can get sick if they lick to much of it. I hope this helps!

Monitor for difficulty breathing wheezing, coughing, lethargy, drooling, loss of appetite, wobbly gait or tremors. Remove him to an area with fresh air and ventilate the affected areas for several hours before bringing him back in.

Flea spray can cause a reaction such as you're describing, especially if she ingests some of it, which cats will often do while grooming. Hopefully it's just a reaction to the taste of the spray, and will pass quickly. If it continues for more than a couple of hours, or if she becomes lethargy or unsteady, take her in to the vet immediately, as she could have a more serious reaction to the medication. Also, if the spray contains pyrethrin, have her seen immediately, as this is highly toxic to cats.

Hi there. Symptoms of permethrin poisoning (muscle tremors, seizures, etc.) are usually evident within a few hours of exposure. So if you used the fly spray last week and are not seeing any signs of a problem, there's probably no need to worry :)

You did the absolute right thing by bathing Luna as quickly as you did! Since she is no longer showing any symptoms she should be fine. Keep a close eye on her for the rest of the day in case anything changes. Things to look out for are itchy/red/inflamed skin and any change in her breathing pattern (in case she breathed in any of the spray). If she is still acting normal over the next few hours you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you do notice any of these symptoms you should bring Luna in to the vet to be checked out.

Dettol can be toxic to cats when ingested but if she only licked a small amount then she might be fine. At this point, continue to monitor her for any abnormal signs, including vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, lethargy, and decreased appetite. If you notice anything abnormal then have your vet examine her. Also, make sure to wash her paws to remove any remaining chemicals.

For that reason, Chigger may be just fine. I would recommend that you watch him closely and if he does show symptoms such as decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and/or discomfort have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, he is likely going to be ok. Best of luck!
