My cat licked floor cleaner. Is it toxic? What are pet-safe products?

It was a great idea to steam clean the kitchen, and it should be good enough. If you are very concerned, you can scrub the floor again with a cleaner, and then steam mop one more time to make sure that the cleaner is completely removed.

It can be irritating to the skin and irritating to the stomach if a lot is ingested, but wouldn't be toxic beyond that. You can just rinse the areas that had contact with the cleaner with normal water. Flush the area for a minute and continue to keep her off of the carpet until it dries and she should be fine. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the floor looked dry I am sure she is fine. I do not think she needs to see a vet. If you want to rinse her mouth out well with water as a precaution and wipe her paws well with water to prevent any more possible ingestion that isn't wrong. If she becomes lethargic, drools, won't eat or in anyway appears abnormal then bring her to the Vet. But based on your description I think she will be fine. Maybe have a discussion with your roommate about this so it won't happen again. I hope this helps!

It sounds like you have taken the appropriate precautions and it should be just fine. Symptoms of cleaner ingestion may include: excessive drooling, vomiting, and/or a decrease in appetite. Most household cleaning products are fine to use around your cat. There is no serious harm here if you are using products and then allowing them to airdry. The main concern is that some aerosolized cleaning products can cause irritation of your cats airway in some cases. However, most of these products will also cause you discomfort as well, so use your best judgement here. In most situations if you can handle exposure to the product, then so can your pet. As far as ingesting products go, you just have to make sure not to leave out any buckets of cleaner that your cat could potentially get into, and you are basically covered here as well. If you are still a bit worried about your pet, you can also switch all your household products to more organic cleaning products such as Green Works or the Mrs. Meyers products, which are derived from 98% natural products. Cleaning solutions are usually irritating to the stomach and intestines, but don't tend to cause much internal toxicity besides that. If she is eating, drinking and acting normally, then I would not be too concerned. She may have diarrhea for a day or two also, but this is OK. If she continues to vomit for more than 24 hours, has diarrhea for more than three days, or is not eating, drinking and acting normally, then I recommend taking her to the vet. Most common household cleaners are safe when diluted according to the instructions. For example, properly diluted PineSol - if Lucy drank straight from the mop bucket, she would likely have vomiting and diarrhea, but it is unlikely to be fatal. So if you keep her out of the mop bucket and attempt to keep her away from the floors until they are dry, you should be fine!
