My cat licked toilet cleaner. What signs mean she needs a vet?

I’d just watch her for now, and check her mouth to make sure there are no burns in it. If you see burns, take her into a vet immediately. Cleaning solutions are usually irritating to the stomach and intestines, but don't tend to cause much internal toxicity besides that. If she is eating, drinking and acting normally, then I would not be too concerned. She may have diarrhea for a day or two also, but this is OK. If she continues to vomit for more than 24 hours, has diarrhea for more than three days, or is not eating, drinking and acting normally, then I recommend taking her to the vet. I would keep a close eye on their stool, appetite and behavior and if anything changes or seems abnormal, have them checked by your vet. I hope that helps. It sounds like you have taken the appropriate precautions and it should be just fine. Symptoms of cleaner ingestion may include: excessive drooling, vomiting, and/or a decrease in appetite. If any of this occurs for Mirz, please seek veterinary care. But once again, I do not think you have much to be concerned about after all you have done.

Most of the floor cleaners used nowadays are not heavily toxic and if your kitty just licked a small amount off his feet he shouldn't have any long term effects. Occasionally we may see some stomach upset or irritation to the mouth. I would offer him some food and just monitor him for vomiting and excessive drooling. If you notice any abnormal behaviors then you can bring him in for an exam. As I said, most floor cleaners will dry quickly and won't be harmful unless the pet is licking large volumes up, but if you want to be extra cautious you can mix vinegar with water to make a cleaning solution (though you can't use this on wood floors).

Hello. I cannot find the exact product you are referring to, however with cleaning products the most typical problem is irritation to the region where there was exposure. Usually this means that ingestion will cause ulcers and irritation in the mouth, or in the GI tract. I would suggest rinsing out the mouth and monitoring for any clinical signs including vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, decreased attitude (being very quiet, not wanting to move or play). As long as Clint is acting normally, and isn't salivating (drooling) a lot or acting abnormal, he should be ok. You can always call your emergency clinic or post the full name of the product that we can double check as well for any more toxic ingredients. I hope Clint feels better!
