Why is my cat lethargic, not eating, and vomiting after a death?

I'm so sorry that Alva is having troubles, and sorry that we weren't able to get to your question sooner. I can understand why you are worried about your girl! Yes, she could be distressed and upset from the loss of the kitten. Give her some TLC and some time; if she is still having discharge in another 5-7 days, try to get her in to the vet. Poor Nariko! It's very concerning that she's so lethargic and not eating, as these are often signs of a serious problem in cats. Since she had stillborn kittens, it's possible that she could have a serious uterine infection or even a dead kitten still inside her. Cats can also get pregnancy toxemia, eclampsia, and other life-threatening problems around the time of birth. I would recommend taking Nariko to a vet immediately for an exam. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

I am afraid it sounds as if Jewel has picked up an infection, or she is just worn out from nursing & cleaning up after the kittens. I would not let her nurse the kittens, to decrease contamination if this is contagious, & to prevent a further drain on her resources. It would be best to have her seen by your veterinarian, not only to start treatment for her, if necessary, but to hopefully prevent the kittens from becoming ill. Cats can not go very long before they become even sicker. 3 days without food, & she could be in trouble. The kittens are old enough to eat on their own. Any abnormal behavior or sign of illness that persists, worsens or other signs develop are an indication to see your veterinarian. It's possible she has a kitten still inside of her or other problem going on. Your vet can gather a history, perform an examination and then advise you on any diagnostic tests needed. It's really difficult to know for sure without being able to examine her. Given that she hasn't eaten for two days and is lethargic and vomiting, I have to recommend that she be seen by a vet as soon as possible. This could indicate a severe disease, or toxin ingestion. In both cases, her condition can diminish rapidly if not treated soon enough. Loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Miu reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as she has not improved in the treatments they have recommended so far. I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't image how surprising and upset that must have been for you. The best way to find out why you're little boy passed away would be an autopsy. Without an autopsy, my best guess would be heart disease. Cats get a heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle is abnormally thick and doesn't pump blood effectively. Often and tragically the first symptom of this disease is sudden death. Little One could be grieving the loss of her brother - this is quite common. The surviving pet's routines and life are suddenly different and their playmate is gone, so they experience true loss. Depending on how recently your boy passed away, I might be concerned about a toxin making them both sick. If you know about any potential toxin exposure or if there is mouse bait in or around your home, Little One needs to go to the emergency vet right away. I would be most concerned about a toxin if it was within the last 12-24 hours that your boy passed away. Beyond that, it's unlikely that it's effecting her so much slowly. All in all, if she's really acting strange, not eating, sleeping too much, having any vomiting or diarrhea, it would be best to take her to the emergency clinic for an exam. If you still have your little boy's body, doing the autopsy could ease your mind as well. Please accept my condolences during this difficult time.
