Why is my new mom cat less affectionate and playful after delivery?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 6.6 lbs

Changu, a female maine coon cat of 13 months. It was her first delivery. Her behaviour seem chenged after that. She is no more playful and joyful that she used to be. She hardly comes to me to show affections like she used to rub her body and head. She also doesnt come and sit on lap. Whenever I try to lift her up on my hands, she feels uncomfortable and jumps off. Now I dont notice her purr too. I try to play with her with toys but she is not interested. Why this change in behaviour?

Wow Changu's kittens look pretty old to be nursing! If they are still trying to nurse, wean them. Otherwise, now that she is a mom, she has different priorities and she may not be as affectionate as she once was. If you spay her, and re home her kittens, she might act more like she did before puberty and the pregnancy, but there is no way to know for sure.
