Cat miscarried, spayed. Will she be depressed mothering other kittens?

Yes she can still nurse the kittens, if she still has milk. Sometimes a queen can also restart making milk. This is great as she will take care of them emotionally, hygienically and teach them everything they need to know, especially if you do not take them away before they are 12 weeks old. If she does not have milk (the kittens will get grouchy and whine ) you will need to feed them with kitten formula. You can find out their age by weighing them. For each week of age they are 3.5 oz , so if they are three weeks old they would weigh about 10.5 oz. If you are not sure that mama has milk, take her to your vet who can check that for you. Wow Changu's kittens look pretty old to be nursing! If they are still trying to nurse, wean them. Otherwise, now that she is a mom, she has different priorities and she may not be as affectionate as she once was. If you spay her, and re home her kittens, she might act more like she did before puberty and the pregnancy, but there is no way to know for sure.

Introducing new toys, catnip and even a new cat under close supervision (after making sure that the new cat doesn’t have intestinal parasites, fleas, FeLV/FIV or other transmissible diseases and won’t get get your cat pregnant) may help as well! Hello. I am sorry to hear that Flash lost her kittens. The behaviour that you are describing sounds like it could be related to her hormonal drive to nurse kittens, but she has nothing to nurse because they died. However, the fact that she lost all of her kittens is concerning for an infection present in her uterus or possibly a viral infection or possibly other infectious agents (some of which can be zoonotic- can be spread to humans- and cause abortions). I would suggest having Flash seen by a veterinarian to ensure she doesn't have any signs of infection and also to discuss possibly desexing Flash, to ensure she doesn't get complications in the future with her uterus, and also to eliminate her chance of getting pregnant again. With her history of a complete stillborn litter, I would highly recommend getting her spayed. Good luck with Flash.

This is quite odd behavior, but she is likely taking care of them since her other kittens passed away. I don't know of any ill side effects except maybe becoming overweight or an upset tummy from the change in diet. I would try to separate them so that the 5 month old kittens don't get over weight from nursing and eating regular cat food. Also the kittens could cause some harm to the mothers mammary tissue since they have teeth now. Also I would recommend to spay or neuter the kittens and mom to prevent any additional litters if at all possible. If either of the kittens are male it could mate with the litter mate or mother causing some kittens to be born with some serious genetic defects. Plus if the mother isn't nursing her new kittens then she likely won't properly nurse her upcoming litters. If you are unable to fix all of them, you may want to start with any of the males. What a surprise! Fortunately, the recent surgery should not cause any problems at all with the kittens - there is no reason that she shouldn't be able to have them normally. If her paw seems painful, I would definitely recommend giving your vet a call in the morning to let them know that she's uncomfortable - he/she should be able to prescribe some additional pain medication for the next few days.

Unfortunately, there are not any great medicines you can give for a hormonal imbalance as such. I would give her some time. I would also make sure she is eating and drinking normally. If not, she could be in pain or have an infection from her surgery. I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she is okay. Otherwise, give her a few days and she should calm down. It can take a few weeks for them to get back to 100% normal especially since she was so far along in her pregnancy. I hope this helps!
