My cat's leg is cut after a dog fight. Is it broken? When to see vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 24 days old | 2 lbs

Hello! Today my cat got in a fight with 2 dogs luckily I came along & saved her but her leg got a huge cut. Her back of her leg skin I ripped. How do I know if she has a broken leg. The fight happened around 9:00am & right now is 2:15pm is that bad leaving her like that without taking to the vet. We will take her to the vet when my brother gets here so I can borrow money to take my kitty to the vet.

Your vet can feel the leg and X-ray it to see if it broken or if there is just muscle damage from the laceration. It is best to keep the kitten confined to limit the activity in that leg until you can get her seen. Monitor the kittens ability to go to the bathroom.
