Why is my cat leaking brown material from a hole next to her anus?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My cat has small, infrequent stool coming from a tiny hole next to her anus. She poops normally though too. She acts healthy (eats, energy, plays). She has had tapeworm in the past and this does not look at all like tape worm or roundworm.

It sounds like you may be describing your cats anal gland. This is located next to the anus and expresses a brown material when your cat defecates. I would recommend taking Izzy to see her veterinarian because she made her anal glands expressed.
