Cat having kittens, blood sac, no contractions. Is this normal?

I would nor be concerned at this stage. Multiple placemats can be expelled at the same time and this is what you may have seen. As long as she is able to nurse the kittens and is eating and drinking well, I would just monitor for now. If she becomes lethargic or inappetant then I would get her checked by a vet. You can have an ultrasound performed to ensure everything is ok. If you notice excessive bleeding all of a sudden, I would get her seen as soon as possible. I hope this helps! This is likely the amniotic sac or a placenta. If Iris has been having strong contractions without producing a kitten, she needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Never pull on anything that is hanging out of her since you don't know exactly what it is. Occasionally they can prolapse part of their uterus and if you pull on it you will make it drastically worse. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The placenta can be passed before, after or with the kitten. Sometimes animals eat the placenta before we notice. I would assume it passed. If she isn't eating, lethargic or has a fever she should be seen by a Vet. I highly recommend doing so regardless to see how many more kittens are left and discuss spaying her in the next 4-6 weeks before she comes in to heat again. I wish you the best!

Hello. As long as Panther is content caring for her newborn, then there is not too much to worry about. If she does not have any more in the next 2-3 hours, then I think it would be an excellent idea to have your vet take a look, but there does not seem to be anything to panic about just yet. The sac was likely a water bag, there should be a kitten along shortly. Your cat should be able to get on with the labour herself with minimal input. Keep an eye on her but try not to interfere overly. If she is pressing for more than 30mins or there is a long time between kittens call your local vet.

Keep watching her, but do not disturb her. If she does not produce another kitten in about an hour and the red bubble is still there and looks thick, like fleshy tissue, you need to take her and her babies to the vet as she may have a uterine prolapse, which can cause her to die, if it is not reduced.

Please take her to your nearest vet if labour does not progress within the next hour. What she has passed may be a deformed kitten but now that she has started the rest of the litter must follow or she is at severe risk of infection
