My cat just gave birth. Is it normal to expel a placenta-like sac?

My cat just gave birth yesterday everything went smoothly. She had 4 the 3rd was underdeveloped still pink so needless to say it wasnt alive. But 3 healthy ones. Shes been fine eating drinking nursing protecting using litterbox. Everythings good. But today out of no where something that looked basically like a tampon but half the size came out and attached was a sac like the placentas. But she hasnt been overly bleeding. Should i be concerned?

I would nor be concerned at this stage. Multiple placemats can be expelled at the same time and this is what you may have seen. As long as she is able to nurse the kittens and is eating and drinking well, I would just monitor for now. If she becomes lethargic or inappetant then I would get her checked by a vet. You can have an ultrasound performed to ensure everything is ok. If you notice excessive bleeding all of a sudden, I would get her seen as soon as possible. I hope this helps! Hello. There may not be any problems. This might be the placenta from one of the first kittens, or the beginning of the 3rd birth. As long as she seems content & is caring for the newborns, I would just give her more time. If the sack has not passed by tomorrow, try to have Diora seen by your vet tomorrow. The tissue may just need to be gently removed, but more importantly, we want to be sure there are no more kittens. A simple x-ray will disclose this. Hope all is well soon. Is my cat's red bleeding after birth normal or retained placenta?

A small amount of reddish/brown discharge is normal but frank red blood may indicate internal bleeding. Check her gums to make sure she isn't pale - indicating anemia. The blood may indicate postpartum hemorrhage, which is an emergency, and she should be assessed by a veterinarian right away. Retained placenta/kittens would appear as discolored/odorous discharge, fever, and poor doing of the mother. Either way, I would highly recommend she be examined by a vet.

My cat is bleeding after giving birth to a dead kitten. Is it normal?

You can see some bleeding after giving birth, that is normal, but without seeing her in person, I can't say if it's normal or not for sure I'd be concerned she may have more kittens yet to be born. Have her seen by a vet immediately. As for the milk, yes it's normal to still have milk there.

My cat had a stillborn kitten, but no placenta. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The placenta can be passed before, after or with the kitten. Sometimes animals eat the placenta before we notice. I would assume it passed. If she isn't eating, lethargic or has a fever she should be seen by a Vet. I highly recommend doing so regardless to see how many more kittens are left and discuss spaying her in the next 4-6 weeks before she comes in to heat again. I wish you the best!

My cat just had kittens and is bleeding. Is this normal discharge?

This is probably normal lochia discharge that you will see as vaginal discharge for several week post-queening. If she is eating well, the kittens are nursing, and all the nipples have normal milk discharge, she is probably fine. If Princess stops eating, or has vomiting or diarrhea, or seems weak, or has signs of swollen nipples and mastitis, she needs to see a vet right away. Hope that helps!

My cat is in labor and ate a sac. What was it and is it normal?

The sac was likely a water bag, there should be a kitten along shortly. Your cat should be able to get on with the labour herself with minimal input. Keep an eye on her but try not to interfere overly. If she is pressing for more than 30mins or there is a long time between kittens call your local vet.
