Should my 7-month-old cat eat kitten food or adult food? How much?

Hi there. I would recommend feeding her a high quality kitten food until she is 9 months old. You can feed her canned food and dry food. There are several great brands of kitten food available, I like Royal Canin kitten food, Natural Balance and Wellness. I hope that helps. In general, I stick with the bigger name brands because they are formulated by veterinary nutritionists. These include Purina, Hills Science Diet, Eukanuba, Royal Canin etc. Choose something that says “kitten” or “all life stages” until about 9 months, then transition to adult formula. I don’t have a preference on dry or wet so whichever you and Ginger prefer. I always also tell people that if finances are a concern, mixing half high-quality and half low-quality is perfectly acceptable. As for amount, approximately 1/4-1/3 cup or 1 -1.5 can per day (split up into two or three meals ideally). This will of course increase as he grows. Best wishes to you and Ginger!

The amount that you should feed Kuzco will vary widely depending upon the type of kitten food that you choose. Every food has a different calorie density to kibble or canned food. As she grows, the best thing you can do is to read the bag for her age and body weight, and follow the chart on the food. If you are feeding a canned diet (or a mix of canned and dry foods), reputable food companies have feeding guides on their websites for a kitten's age and body weight. Kuzco should eat a food formulated for kittens for the first year of life and then be transitioned over to an adult cat food, but anytime you make a change in diet, be sure to do so by gradually mixing the foods over 5-7 days. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kittens should be on kitten food primarily until they are 9 months to a year of age. There are differences in the nutritional content of these foods. The kitten formula has higher protein, calcium, vitamin D and E to help support health growth then the Savor does. I would recommend your kitten continues to eat the kitten formula until 9 months to a year old and then you can transition him back to the Savor or another adult formula. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. At 9 months old, if spayed/neutered, they should be eating adult food. Kitten food has A LOT of calories and they will get overweight very quickly eating that. It has nothing to do with cost. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Great question! You have two options with feeding Uli. There will be a daily allotment of food to be fed on her food bag, and you can either leave the food out all day for her to eat whenever she wants, or you can divide it up into two equal portions. Give one of the portions in the morning and one at night. At her age, she should still be on a kitten formulated food. Once she is 12 months of age, you can switch her to an adult food. It is not based on the volume of food but more so based on the amount of calories in the food you feed him. This information should be in the back of the bag or can you feed him or possibly online.
