Both my kitten and cat are vomiting. Is home treatment safe?

Poor Oliver! He could be vomiting due to eating something rotten, a foreign body, a GI illness, a respiratory disease that's causing him to cough so hard he vomits, or heart disease. I'm not sure how many time he's been vomiting, but if it's not multiple times in a short period of time, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Given that he hasn't eaten in 24 hours and is vomiting, a home remedy is not an option for him. Normally, it would be recommended that food is withheld then a bland diet is feb, but Sebastian is vomiting after not eating, so this home remedy would be unproductive and vets recommend a visit to the clinic if vomiting occurs in the absence of food when trying the home remedy. I would take him into a vet now, he should have medical attention. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Tom isn't feeling well. He sounds like he could have intestinal parasites and his blood sugar could be low. I recommend offering him canned kitten food to see if you can get his strength up. You could try deworming him with something for hookworms and roundworms but he could have other worms that that medication will not treat. He could also have a contagious disease like feline leukemia, FIV, or FIP. Ideally, he needs to see a vet for an exam and tests. Good luck and kisses to Tom!

Since this is not an option at the moment, you can try to withhold their food for the next 24 hours, then offer small amounts of a bland diet of boiled chicken frequently. Be sure that both cats are drinking water regularly. You can tempt them to drink by adding a tablespoon of low sodium chicken broth to their water, or offer a bit of watered down meat baby food. Poor cats. Yes cats can catch bugs and get ill just like people can. And since both were sick simultaneously, it has to be something they both got into and ingested or were exposed to. It is very odd that nothing has changed in their environment, so finding out the culprit is going to be tough. You also may want t check with the company that made the filter you just changed just to make sure no recalls exist. Also I would consider just changing the filter altogether just to cover every possibility here. Also make sure that there also isn’t any chance of them getting into medications in the home as well. Regardless of that, they should be seen by your vet if they are still not eating and unwell. That is a long time to go without a good appetite, especially for a cat, and at the very least the vet can give them anti-nausea medicine, antibiotics (if indicated), and fluids to treat for any undelrying dehydration.
