My kitten is vomiting, weak, and thin. What home remedies can I try?

I recommend taking Stewie to the veterinarian to make sure he is ok. This may be a virus but it can also be intestinal parasites. I would bring a stool sample when taking him to the vet for check for parasites. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

My concern for Annie is that with and much vomiting and diarrhea and being so young and small is dehydration. Also young thin animals can get low blood sugar if they aren't eating or holding food down. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea in young kittens are parasites, viruses, eating something that didn't agree with them, foreign bodies, toxins, congenital liver problems, etc. Unfortunately, my recommendation is that you take her to the Veterinarian. There isn't any home remedy. In some areas there are local shelters that have veterinary clinics that can be low cost. I wish you and Annie the best.

Hi there and thanks for posting on PetCoach! I'm sorry to hear Tom is having all of these health issues. Poor guy! Spinal injuries can take a while to heal and some do require surgery. Spinal injuries are also often quite painful so making sure Tom has some pain medication on board would be helpful. If no pain medication was given, you may ask your veterinarian about this. Special food can be prescribed by your veterinarian or an appetite stimulant medication can be prescribed by your veterinarian to help increase his appetite. You can also heat up the wet food at home a bit to bring out the flavor and may entice him to eat a little bit. Ticks and fleas in small young kittens can actually cause anemia (low red blood cell count) which can cause weakness and lethargy. The ticks will need to be safety removed either by you or your veterinarian. If you are unsure how to remove a tick, I have linked a video below. You may use a bath of dish soap (Dawn dish soap works well) to help get rid of flea infestation until he is old enough to be on a month flea preventative such as Revolution or Advantage. If Tom is still not doing well, I would recommend he see his veterinarian again to see what else your veterinarian would recommend. I'm sorry but we are based in the U.S. so I have no idea what medications you have available to you in Pakistan. It is best for you to contact a local vet. If the cat has not been dewormed I would suggest that. If the cat continues to vomit it may have a gastrointestinal obstruction, in which case, surgery would be needed.

Kittens are susceptible to many different infections, both viral & bacterial. A heavy parasite burden from coccidia, or roundworms can also wear a kitten down & leave it weak. Pascal is too young & small to try & fight this off on his own. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. If you can not have him seen tonight or tomorrow, pick up some Nutrical from Petco tomorrow, & try to give him small amount frequently throughout the day. This is a high calorie supplement to hopefully keep his energy up. Then please try to have him seen by your veterinarian as early as possible on Monday. I hope he does better soon. Whenever a kitten has both vomiting and soft stool, they are considered too sick for a home remedy. The best thing to do for him is to take him into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Hypothermic kittens can be much more sick than they let on. Vomiting can be caused by many things, including hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. If the vomiting happens for more than 24 hours, or if Tom does not eat in that time, he needs to see a vet immediately. Continue to encourage him to drink water and eat canned cat food. You can use a heating pad on the low setting to help warm him up, but check often that it is not too hot as it is quite easy to burn their skin. You can leave the heating pad where he can sit on it, but if he moves away do not force him to go back.
