My cat bats tiny kibble. Does kibble size matter for cats?

Hi there and thank you for your post! The size of kibble may make it easier for a smaller dog to eat if the kibble bites are smaller. Sometimes, depending on the dog and Its preference for texture, some small dogs prefer large bites over small bites and some dogs prefer small bites over large bite. I would offer both types to see which one is preferred. There are no health benefits over eating small versus large kibble. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! I personally haven't found that to be an issue, as cat food typically isn't large because cats do not have big mouths. Unfortunately there is no Science Diet small bites for cats, those types of diets are for dogs because they do vary so much in mouth size due to breed differences. You can try the Science Diet Indoor, but if you find it too big for Ellie, Science Diet Feline adult is just fine for her. Be sure to feed her according to the package instructions so you don't give her too much food, and make sure she has plenty of play time to get exercise. I hope this helps :-)

Hello, Cats can be very finicky eaters. Most truly healthy cats with no dental disease will not starve themselves of kibble if left with only that option. However, cats can seriously damage their liver if they go too long without eating, and some cats are both very finicky and very strong willed. Yes, it is fine to feed Kiba a food that is larger kibble! In fact, feeding larger kibble makes dogs chew a little more, which is great for preventing tartar build up on their teeth. Just watch Kiba the first few times that you feed it to make sure that he is chewing well and doesn't seem to have any choking from swallowing large pieces.

Some feel that canned cat food is more ideal due to the extra moisture content and because cats are more carnivorous than dogs. Canned food is best for cats with underlying urinary issues. With that being said if Noushmc prefers dry then that is what you should offer her. I wouldn't be concerned. Have a good day!

This is a great question about Chloe. I do not believe it is necessary for her to be on a "small bites" food. As long as she is on a good, well balance food then a little large kibble is perfectly okay. Natural Balance LID is a great diet and as long as she is willing to eat the regular sized kibbles, then go for it! (p.s. I love cavaliers!)

By doing that the kibbles smell stronger and are more attractive to cats. Also, they fill up the stomach quickly, so your cats will feel better after each meal. Also, adding water to kibbles increases general water intake, which is beneficial for health in many cats.
