My cat has an irritated eye. Should I see an ER vet and quarantine?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male

Jackie has an irritated eye, red around the edges and producing rust-colored discharge. Earliest my vet can see him is 1 week from now. Should I find a vet that can see him sooner/emergency animal clinic? Appetite and water intake seems fine Also, should I quarantine him from my two other cats?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Jackie. Poor boy! I see what you mean about his eye in the pictures, and I'm concerned he may have an eye infection or could have injured his eye. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. To answer your question, yes I think you should see if there is another vet who can see him sooner or take him into an ER vet. I would quarantine him from the other cats to be safe. I hope this helps!
