My cat's eye is shut, red, goopy, and has a milky film. What's wrong?

Hello. I would guess that Henry has a mild irritation or scratch to his cornea. It is mild now, but you should have this looked at tomorrow as it could get worse. Mild corneal irritations can heal very quickly with proper treatment, but can get bad fast if ignored. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sabian! I am concerned about his eye and I suggest you take him to an open 24 hr Veterinary Emergency hospital. When it comes to eye issues it is best to have the pet seen sooner than later. Possible causes are: corneal ulcer, glaucoma, ruptured globe, severe conjunctivitis, tumor, or tooth root abscess. He needs to have the eye examined, stained for an ulcer and possibly the pressure measured with in the eye. He would nee a safe eye medication to be prescribed based on the cause of the swelling. Hello. It is possible that Snowey is reacting to something that was used in the eyes. Closed eyes are an indication the eyes really are bothering him. If you have an emergency clinic nearby it would be a good idea to have Snowey evaluated to make sure he is not developing any potential problems with the eyes. I see what you mean about his eye in the pictures, and I'm concerned he may have an eye infection or could have injured his eye. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. To answer your question, yes I think you should see if there is another vet who can see him sooner or take him into an ER vet. I would quarantine him from the other cats to be safe. If there is an emergency vet within a reasonable distance, I would recommend that Willie get checked out sooner than later. Eye problems can be very painful, and can go from bad to worse very quickly (even overnight). There can be many causes of squinting an eye, including something stuck under the eyelid, corneal abrasion or ulcer, autoimmune disease, among a few others. Without personally seeing it I can't be certain, but what you may be seeing with him "looking to the upper right" is the effect of a raised third eyelid covering the inner part of the eye to make it look weird. You can try to flush the eye with a saline eye rinse, but do not apply any medications topically. Keep him inside in a dim room since bright light makes many eye problems more painful.
