My pet has an infected jaw wound. Can it wait for the regular vet?

Oh goodness, that does not look great. It seems he broke down the stitches and there is debris in the excraction site. Hopefully it is just food and debris and not an infection. Do you have a syringe? Squirt gun? Anything you could make shift to use to “rinse” out the hole? A warm water rinse to the area to try to flush out the debris may make it look a lot better. This does not look very alarming and I think it can wait until Monday. Keep giving his antibiotic, do not let it get contaminated with dirt and keep the e-collar on your dog at all times in order to keep him from licking.

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Freyja. It does look like she has a tooth root abscess, most likely involving the 4th upper premolar. Antibiotics usually clears the infection very nicely, but often the tooth needs to be removed. As long as Freyja is eating well & is in no significant discomfort, you can wait to have her seen. Placing a warm compress over the area should help with drainage. I would do this for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

I am sorry to hear that Lestat is hurt and painful. Bite wounds almost always become infected, and by your description it sounds like he has an infection. I do think it wound be a wise idea to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. My concern in waiting would be the infection worsening to the point of him becoming septic. It is also the end of the week and if you aren’t seen tomorrow you may have to be seen an an emergency facility which is typically more expensive than a general day practice. Hello. If there is an emergency clinic or a 24 hour on-call vet available I would try calling them and have Kuku seen. It is possible that the wound needs surgery or possibly different medications. There isn't really anything you can do at home for him, he needs to see a vet. Good luck with Kuku.

It doesn't look great, but if he is eating and drinking, he does not have a fever, and the area isn't hot, you can wait until tomorrow morning to have him seen by his vet. If the area becomes hot, he gets a fever, or he stops eating or drinking, have him seen by an ER vet right away. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. This may not be a salivary gland issue and may be an infection or other cause. If you knew for sure 100% that this was a salivary gland issue, waiting until the morning would be ok. But because the cause is not known, I would recommend getting this looked at sooner. The sooner antibiotics are given for a possible infection , the better. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
