My cat's dog bite wound is infected. Should I see an emergency vet?

I am sorry to hear about Kallu. A photo of the wounds may help us to better answer your question, but I would definitely recommend bringing Kallu to a veterinarian for examination as it sounds like his wounds are serious and may require sutures or bandaging, and most likely will require antibiotics as bite wounds introduce bacteria into the tissue and can become infected.

There is a photo attached this time, thank you! Yes, the wound looks serious enough to warrant a vet visit. That looks like it could use stitches to close, and Kiyo will need antibiotics to prevent infection. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Poor Luka! From the picture you have provided, the edges of the wound make it appear to be an older wound, not a fresh new one, and it appears to be healing. That being said, I cannot rule out any additional wounds or any infection without seeing him in person, and it is a pretty good size wound. To be safe, yes I would take him into the vet just to get it checked out and to make sure there aren't any other problems. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting. From the pictures, the area looks red and infected. I would advise Khora be taken to a veterinarian so they can clean the wound thoroughly and give Khora a course of antibiotics. In the mean time, you can keep the area clean with a mild cleansing cloth or 3% hydrogen peroxide a few times daily, but I would highly recommend seeing a veterinarian. Poor Babie! Wounds caused by other animals are very likely to get infected without treatment, so the best thing to do is to book Babie in with your vet. He may need sedation in order for the vet to see how deep the wound is, and will also likely need a course of antibiotics.

Ouch, poor Eddie! Unfortunately, it's impossible to fully assess this wound's severity from a picture alone. The wound itself looks fairly large and appears to be covered in a hair-crusted scab. The challenge likes in how deep the wound goes under the scab, and if it penetrates into the tooth roots, jaw, or salivary glands. To answer your question, yes, Eddie does need veterinary attention. Since he's afraid of people, it's likely that he will need to be sedated in order for your veterinarian to examine this wound. Your vet will need to determine the depth of the wound, and at a minimum, will need to clip the hair around the wound and clean it with an antiseptic cleanser. I fully expect that they'll prescribe an antibiotic or give a long-acting antibiotic injection, as it's likely that this wound is also infected. Try to get to the vet as soon as you can - preferably within the next day. Until your vet appointment, be sure to put an e-collar (cone) on Eddie to prevent him from scratching at this area, as that will make matters worse. Best of luck and I hope that he heals quickly!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to pet coach. I think as long as Muka is eating, drinking, and seems comfortabke the wound can probably wait until monday for treatment. Watch it very closely and if anything changes i would have him seen right away.
