My cat has a high temperature and is sick. Can I give her Panadol?

Using Panadol is not recommended in cats and can result in a toxicity so discontinue this. Your veterinarian would be able to look at him more closely and prescribe therapy accordingly. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Panadol contains Acetaminophen which is extremely toxic to cats. Whether Kattu with be ok depends on his weight and the dose that was given to him. At toxic doses it causes an issue with red blood cell oxygen carrying abilities and is seen with in 1-4 hours of ingestion and can last 12-48 hours or until death. Clinical signs include cyanosis (blue gums), difficulty breathing, fast breathing, depression, low body temperature weakness, facial edema, and/or edema of the feet. It can also cause liver toxicity, which can develop 24-48 hours after exposure. Clinical signs are jaundice, vomiting, abdominal pain and not eating. It can also rarely cause kidney damage 1-2 days later. Dry eye can devlop 48-72 hours later. Kattu should be hospitalized and be monitored at a 24 hour facility. I wish Kattu the best

I strongly recommend getting your cat seen by your vet as soon as possible. Cats can sometimes get fevers with no known origin and it makes them not want to eat. A cat cannot go more than a couple days without eating before they develop liver damage. Your cat may need fluids and supportive care in order to lower his temperature back to normal and support him until his appetite returns.

No, cats are very delicate and have bad reactions to most human medications. Paracetamol can kill a cat so there aren’t any medications that can be given safely to cats. Firstly, please be sure she actually has a fever. You cannot tell just by touching her. A rectal temperature is needed. I suggest you get an accurate temperature before starting any treatment. If she does have a fever, anything over 103.0F, you can use rubbing alcohol (70%) and wipe it on her paw pads and then recheck her temperature about 15 minutes later. If the fever is due to underlying infection this is not likely to help. You can make her temperature drop too low so be careful you don't cause the opposite problem. Absolutely DO NOT give her any over the counter medications. Many are extremely toxic to cats. Honestly, it is best to find an emergency vet open if possible.

Hi, has he had any blood tests ? If so, are these all fine ? If no suspect of pancreatitis or liver disease he could have some Hill’s recovery food, slightly warmed up and offer small amounts little and often. You could also offer a small amount of tuna in water or sardines or white fish. Try to encourage him to eat spontaneously, now that he has received some medications, his temperature might drop and he might feel more inclined to eat. If by this afternoon he stilll has not eaten, I would recommend to try with syringe feeding some recovery diluted with water. If he should not eat, I would still recommend that he is on a drip, at low fluid rate and he receives antibiotics intravenously. Hope it helps.
