My cat growls and hisses when I touch his back or legs. Is he in pain?

The vet can diagnose what is causing him pain, and how best to treat it. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given.

Hello. It is impossible to say exactly what might be going on, but we should rule out the possibility of a bruised rib or small fracture. Your veterinarian may need to clip some hair down to the skin to see what things look like. It is good that everything else is well with her so it does not sound like there is anything serious. Chip seems to be in severe pain on that leg, it could be broken or severely injured, you need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, he will possibly need to have an xray done on that leg.

Poor CJ! It sounds like he is in pain if he's walking slower, struggling to lay down and get up, and cannot bend to clean himself. I would be concerned that he has a problem with his neck or back. It possible he was injured. My advice is to rest him tonight, and take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing his pain, and can treat him for it. I'm sorry to hear this! There are many conditions that can cause a cat to cry in pain, including fractures, soft tissue injuries, clot formation in a back leg (saddle thrombus), among others. Your cat should be seen by a vet immediately if he is in pain so that the underlying cause can be diagnosed and managed appropriately. There are no safe over the counter pain medications for cats, so do not give him anything without speaking to your vet.

I am sorry Tikvichko is not feeling well. If he is an outdoor cat I would be concerned about an abscess/infection or fracture/break in his bone. Most cats will heal from a broken bone over time however I would call your vet for pain medication for Tikvichko. Also I would recommend a good physical exam because if an infection is present he will need antibiotics to resolve the issue. Hope he feels better soon

These symptoms could be due to a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, trauma, a mass, or a foreign body in the paw or leg. Some infectious diseases and joint diseases such as arthritis or joint infection can cause limping and gait changes as well. Your vet can assess Oi by doing a physical exam, and will make recommendations for further diagnostics/ treatments as needed. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous and even deadly for cats due to toxicity, so I do not recommend giving any to Oi without consulting with your vet.
