My cat's back legs are weak and painful when touched. What's wrong?

I am sorry to hear that Bandit isn’t feeling well. Does he go outside? If so then a brewing abscess may be the culprit or perhaps he was clipped by a car or rolled by a dog or other predator. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If he is that painful then your veterinarian may choose to give some pain medications prior to examining him, but they will make that determination once you are there. He may also need an x-ray. I'm sorry to hear this! There are many conditions that can cause a cat to cry in pain, including fractures, soft tissue injuries, clot formation in a back leg (saddle thrombus), among others. Your cat should be seen by a vet immediately if he is in pain so that the underlying cause can be diagnosed and managed appropriately. There are no safe over the counter pain medications for cats, so do not give him anything without speaking to your vet.

Lying down a lot and reacting to touch indicates that Oi is likely in pain. Please make an appointment to have Oi seen by a vet as soon as possible. These symptoms could be due to a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, trauma, a mass, or a foreign body in the paw or leg. Some infectious diseases and joint diseases such as arthritis or joint infection can cause limping and gait changes as well. Your vet can assess Oi by doing a physical exam, and will make recommendations for further diagnostics/ treatments as needed. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous and even deadly for cats due to toxicity, so I do not recommend giving any to Oi without consulting with your vet.

It could be Shaky is in pain, either from his back or hips. Rest him tonight, keep him indoors if he's allowed outside, and watch him. Poor Tigre! He certainly could be limping from a fight or may have a foreign body in his paw. It's very concerning you can't touch his leg without him crying, and that indicates he is in a lot of pain. So does the limping. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, many human ones are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. He really needs to see a vet first thing in the morning for these problems, two weeks is a long time for a cat to be in pain. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms so he can be treated properly. Please take him into a vet first thing in the morning. I would also speak to the vet about neutering him. Intact males frequently get into fights over females and territory, and neutering can reduce aggressive behavior. Good luck, I hope this helps!
