My cat is meowing in pain from his back leg. Is it an emergency?

I am worried that he may have thrown a blood clot to his back legs causing paralysis. This is known as a saddle thrombus and can be quite painful and serious. This is typically due to heart disease. If you think Tinkerbell is having back leg problems and she appears to be in pain, I am concerned that this could be what we call a Saddle Thrombus. This is a condition in which a clot breaks free and travels through the aorta down to the saddle (where the femoral arteries branch off of the aorta). This causes paralysis and severe pain. This is typically related to heart disease. I would recommend having Tinkerbell examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Poor Tom! Without seeing him I cannot say for sure what he has injured. He could have simply sprained a muscle or broke a toenail. Unfortunately, he could have also broken a bone. I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and take x-rays if needed. They will be able to get him started on pain meds and the proper treatment plan to help him feel better. I hope this helps!

I am sorry Tikvichko is not feeling well. If he is an outdoor cat I would be concerned about an abscess/infection or fracture/break in his bone. Most cats will heal from a broken bone over time however I would call your vet for pain medication for Tikvichko. Also I would recommend a good physical exam because if an infection is present he will need antibiotics to resolve the issue. Hope he feels better soon

Poor Tyr! My cat is also named Tyr! You can't rule out his leg being broken without an x-ray. He is in a lot of pain if he won't walk on the leg, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. You need to take him into a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated. I strongly urge you to take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

Hello, it's probably painful, but if he is still using that leg quite well when walking then there is no reason to panic, just keep him at home rested for a few days, try to not encourage him to jump or run, he should improve within 2-3 days.

Hi and thanks for posting. Cats do not show pain like we do and they do a great job at hiding it. If she is making noise when you touch the leg, then it means she is in pain. Bella could have a fractured leg or pelvis. She may also have a ligament tear or other injury. I would recommend Bella see her veterinarian to have an exam and x-rays to help determine what the injury is where it is so she can get treatment and start feeling better soon.
