Why is my cat's poop grey and firm like clay, but she's fine?

Pale, white, or gray stools may be indicators of liver disease or intestinal bacterial infections. You may want to take a stool sample as well as your cat, if the stool does not normalize over the next few days or of your kitty appears ill. The vet may want to do blood work to make sure the liver is functioning properly. If so then it is likely that your kitty has an intestinal infection that will require antibiotics to clear up.

I would not say this is a normal consistency of stool to see. I would expect healthy stool to be well formed and a light brown color. However, the color of the stool can vary depending on the diet. The loose stools could also be from intestinal parasites. I would recommend having Hades' stool tested for parasites and if it comes back negative, start a new diet altogether. I would also consider a probiotic such Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! Some times cats pass hair in the feces and often that hair/poop will be large and gray colored. This can be normal. I recommend Hills hairball prevention diet, using cat laxative weekly and brushing or combing your cat daily to remove as much loos hair as possible. If the hairballs continue then you may want to consider allergy medication from your veterinarian to reduce her licking and overgrooming. I would encourage you to ensure that she is drinking enough water as that would be something that is easy to fix. You can also feed her canned diet which will have a higher water content for example. If no improvement is noted after ensuring enough water intake, I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Best of luck!

As long as she is defecating regularly and not straining the firm stool may not be a concern. It is a little unusual for a/d to be recommended as a maintenance diet - you may want to check with your vet and see if there is another diet that would be recommended for Hopper given her constipation. This diet is very nutritionally dense, so it's possible that she's just not making much stool. If she has been straining, or you feel her stool looks black and tarry I would recommend making a recheck appointment with your veterinarian.

Their feces may have been dryer than normal or was in the pan longer before you got a chance to look at it. As long as your cats are healthy otherwise, eating drinking, playing and eliminating well, then I would keep an eye on it. Parasites tend to cause diarrhea rather than grainy texture. If it persists, take a fresh sample to your vet for an analysis.
