My cat had a huge clay-colored hairball and diarrhea. Should I worry?

He could be having difficult defecating due to the extra hair around his anus. You can use grooming clippers (not scissors!) to trim the hair on his backside and under the tail, or find a groomer for a sanitary clip. I recommend a supplement for hairballs, like Laxatone, that will help bind hairballs so they can pass. You may also consider daily brushing, as this will help Mr. Josie get rid of loose hair so that he doesn't ingest as much. However, what you have described could be a sign of constipation. Often times loose stool will move around the harder stool in the colon, and this fluid can have a very foul odor. Mr. Josie may need to see the vet to confirm constipation and receive appropriate treatment.

She is obviously grooming a lot and therefore ingesting a lot of hairs. It is good for her to either poop out the hair or even regurgitate the hair balls. I think you are doing everything right and I would not change her food regimen. You can help her a bit by combing or brushing her coat and removing loose hair. This would reduce hair ingested. If she is otherwise fine, I would not worry about this unless she developed diarrhea or any other symptoms. Otherwise, she is likely to be just fine. Good luck and have a great day!

This could just be digested materials mixed in with the hair. I wouldn't be too concerned. I would however get him started on hairball medicine regimen a few times per week. I like laxatone. You can give it 2-3 times per week long term. If the vomiting continues or if you ever see blood, I would have your vet take a look at him. I hope this helps!

This could be dirt she ingested with the hair when she was grooming, or she ate something that was, for example, burnt or charred and is not digestible. It is not something to worry about, in my opinion. Since your kitty obviously is a good groomer, I suggest you get a tube of hair ball remedy and give her some regularly to help with elimination of the hair balls. There is also dry food with hair ball control ingredients.

If Lilly has gone more than 24 hours without eating, she should be seen by the vet. I would not say this is a normal consistency of stool to see. I would expect healthy stool to be well formed and a light brown color. However, the color of the stool can vary depending on the diet. The loose stools could also be from intestinal parasites. I would recommend having Hades' stool tested for parasites and if it comes back negative, start a new diet altogether. I would also consider a probiotic such Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps!
