My cat foamed after liquid medicine. Did she get dose? How to give?

The medication may have a bitter taste. When cats get something in their mouth that they don't want or like, they will drool profusely and foam at the mouth. If she will allow, rinse her mouth with cool water for 10-15 minutes. This may decrease drooling. Try mixing the medication into a bit of food and offering it. Once she eats it, you can feed the remainder of the meal. This may be enough to mask any bad taste.

Foaming at the mouth in a cat after medication is typically a sign that the medication was either bitter tasting to them or it just wasn't pleasant. You can try the medicaiton again, giving it slowly this time and see what response Kitty has. Hi. So sorry its tough to give those medications. I would still treat both. There are a couple options. You could put the medicine on wet food, but you have to make sure they eat it all and all at once. You could ask your veterinarian if they could tey a pill form. Or you could ask them to compound it in to a.flavored medication ( tuna, chicken, etc). Good luck

Cats can sometimes cough after being given a med, especially if giving it is stressful for them or if it's irritating their throat. If Sweetie is more comfortable taking the same amount via dropper, and it less stressful for her, you can administer the meds that way. It is likely the syringe was suggested so she doesn't have to taste the medication (it can be bitter) since the syringe will place it further back in the throat, and so it is faster to give.

Poor Pye! Thank you for following up to state that he got some miconazole in his nose and mouth. This medication is only prescribed for topical use, and seems to only have minimal absorption if some is accidentally ingested. However, it can cause some stomach upset or even liver problems if enough is ingested. It's likely that Pye is foaming at the mouth because it tastes pretty terrible. I'm glad to hear that you've rinsed out his mouth! However, since I don't know how much he ingested, I'd recommend calling either the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) or the ASPCA Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) to discuss this problem with one of their veterinary toxicologists. Odds are good that this shouldn't cause any problems for Pye, but it's best to confirm with them the risk of causing liver problems based on how much of the miconazole that got into his mouth. Hi, Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the cat burrito method (wrapping in a blanket) isn't working you can try putting the liquid medication in canned cat food. Put it in a small amount then feed him the rest. Otherwise make sure he is really wrapped tightly and all legs are wrapped up and the towel is to the back of his head it doing the towel method. You could also ask the vet for a pill or injectable form of the medication if available. Good luck

It is never recommended to medicate your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. Many over the counter medications can be toxic to cats. Ideally, Black Bean should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose any underlying causes. Blood work and xrays may be indicated after a physical exam. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti emetics, etc) may be needed until a diagnosis is reached.
