How to give medicine to cats that scratch and foam? Do both need it?

Hello. Foaming is not unusual when cats taste something they really do not like, but most likely most of the medication did go down. The problem is how much is Sweetie going to fight you at the next dose, & then the next one after that. I still prefer pills, as depending on the size, most are pretty tiny, or tablets can be formulated into tasty treats. I have also found that a lot of cats really love the taste of an product called Churu, by INABA. It is a lickable treat that makes it super simple to hide a small pill in it. For now, you can refrigerate the prednisolone you do have because making it cold often helps to disguise the nasty flavor some. Hope this all helps. I understand! Medicating cats can be very challenging in some cases. I'm not sure what type of medication he is taking, but some options would include mixing in some canned food, tuna, or other special treat. If he won't eat it this way and won't allow you to medicate him by putting the medication directly in his mouth, you could ask your vet about having it compounded into a tasty treat or liquid suspension that might be easier to give.

Hi, Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the cat burrito method (wrapping in a blanket) isn't working you can try putting the liquid medication in canned cat food. Put it in a small amount then feed him the rest. Otherwise make sure he is really wrapped tightly and all legs are wrapped up and the towel is to the back of his head it doing the towel method. You could also ask the vet for a pill or injectable form of the medication if available. Good luck

I have 3 cats and they generally hate their medication as well. The easiest way to go about this is to grab a towel and burrito wrap the kitten in there to trap his legs and prevent him from scratching you, then scruff him (grab the back of his neck with one hand). I'm sorry you're having such a challenging time with Meowsie. It certainly is good of you to treat a feral cat. Crushing Comfortis and mixing it with food shouldn't cause a problem with its absorption, so I doubt that is your problem. If you are still seeing fleas, you might ask your vet for another recommendation, but Comfortis tends to work well. Unfortunately, when a cat has flea allergies or chronic skin problems, it can take a while for the itching to improve even once the fleas have been treated. I might consider giving her a fish oil supplement daily to help improve her skin and decrease her itching. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this with Buster. I know how frustrating that can be. I have a few ideas. The Prednisone can be compounded into a liquid that tastes good (not the cherry flavored liquid that is available at a regular pharmacy), but you will still likely need to give it in his mouth if he is not eating his new food well. So, I would ask your vet to teach you how to wrap Buster in a towel to safely administer medications. You may also ask them how to give his pills that way. There are some wonderful compounding pharmacies that will require shipping time like Roadrunner ( https://www.roadrunnerpharmacy.com/ ), but you may have a compounding pharmacy near your that may be able to help you.
