My cat fell from a balcony and has brain injuries. Will he recover?

It is quite possible he has suffered a head or high spinal injury but a 'broken neck' is unlikely given the fact he is mobile and able to move. The clear blood results are positive and although an MRI or CT scan may provide additional information, if he is eating, mobile and able to toilet normally then rest and TLC may be enough to promote recovery. Hills make a specialist b/d diet may help with brain and neurological health and speed recovery, acupuncture may also be worth considering

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, a lot of the time when it comes to neurologic trauma time and small signs of improvement are what you are looking for. X-ray only tells us if there are fractures in the skull and are very difficult to see the full scope of the trauma as so many structures are superimposed on top of each other. The best diagnostic to give you an idea about extent of trauma and prognosis would be an MRI. It sounds like the kitten is making some progress, but only time will really tell us how much progress he will make. He may never be completely healed and functional, so you will also have to decide how dedicated you can/willing to be for a potentially special needs kitten. I am so sorry to hear this. Based on what you are describing I would assume that the head trauma Dada sustained has caused swelling on the brain. This would account for the neurological symptoms you are seeing. Unfortunately cats with head trauma need intensive nursing care, special IV medications to help decrease the swelling, and possible oxygen therapy. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! O am very sorry this is happening! I think it depends if your cats skull was crushed or he just has head trauma. Animals can survive concussions and head trauma. The neurologic system can heal but it can be very very slow to do so. It depends on whether you have the emotional and financial means to give your cat time. I have seen animals that have been hit by a car have blood from their nose and ears. If your cat is unconscious, starts to have seizures or suffers cardiac arrest I would consider human euthanasia. I would need more details on what surgery your Vet is thinking of doing. Hi, sorry to hear that your cat got hurt! Sometimes neurologic injuries (injuries to the spine) take months to heal. You may have to feed him a soft diet and give him enemas to help him defecate for some time. Also, your vet can show your how to feel your cat's bladder and express it when necessary, usually three times daily. If he is regaining movement in his tail that is a good sign. You must be patient if you wish to save him. I have known cases that have taken 4 months to heal and regain function. It is a big job and you must be come his nurse for a while, but if he is regaining movement already that is a good sign. I cannot promise he will regain function but would not say all is lost until a few months have gone by. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Andy! Be sure that your Vet checked Andy's blood pressure as hypertension is a common reason for vision loss in cats. Then I would seek a neurology consult at a Veterinary School or Specialty hospital. They will do a complete neurological exam and may also have you see a Veterinary ophthalmologist. Once they localize Andy's lesion they will then likely recommend a CT or MRI. Once they confirm a brain tumor they can discuss the prognosis if it can be removed. I'm so sorry that Noah Khan hit his head! He's in the best place possible with the vet, and they can monitor him and treat him as needed. I would keep him there as long as the vets recommend to keep him, and I'm sure they are doing everything they can for him. Unfortunately all you can do is wait for updates and hope that he will be ok. Hang in there, I know it's so hard and I will be hoping as well he pulls through ok!
