My kitten fell and hit head. What to do for a kitten concussion?

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, a lot of the time when it comes to neurologic trauma time and small signs of improvement are what you are looking for. X-ray only tells us if there are fractures in the skull and are very difficult to see the full scope of the trauma as so many structures are superimposed on top of each other. The best diagnostic to give you an idea about extent of trauma and prognosis would be an MRI. It sounds like the kitten is making some progress, but only time will really tell us how much progress he will make. He may never be completely healed and functional, so you will also have to decide how dedicated you can/willing to be for a potentially special needs kitten. Look at his pupils, check his head for any swollen areas or wounds, check his teeth for any fractures. The pupils should be symmetrical and should respond to light normally. Watch him closely when he walks. He should not exhibit any stumbling or incoordination. He should also not appear disoriented. You may try to avoid any strenuous play with Yoshi for the next 12 hours. Avoid any jumping. Monitor his eating and drinking very closely. If you see any potential signs of a concussion, err on the side of caution and have Yoshi examined immediately. I hope this helps and that he does well.

I am so sorry to hear this. Based on what you are describing I would assume that the head trauma Dada sustained has caused swelling on the brain. This would account for the neurological symptoms you are seeing. Unfortunately cats with head trauma need intensive nursing care, special IV medications to help decrease the swelling, and possible oxygen therapy. There are no home remedies safe for use in a young kitten. Keep her warm and well rested, any sign of twitching or seizure activity, lethargy or vomiting will require veterinary assessment and treatment

I'm so sorry that's happened to Nawab! If you have absolutely no option to take him to a vet, all you can do at home is try to keep him in a warm, safe area and offer him food and water (hand feeding, but not force feeding) hourly. Unfortunately without medical supplies and diagnostic information (X-rays, bloodwork), there just isn't much that you can do. If he has survived until now, and his breathing is not worse, continue nursing him along; he may pull through. I am so sorry there isn't more that you can do at home.

Poor little thing. The appearance of the abnormal eye is concerning. There may have been enough trauma to the eye to have caused glaucoma which can be very painful and should be addressed. In many cases, mild head trauma signs will slowly resolve and the fact that she is already showing improvement is a great sign. It is still best to have her checked out, have the eye evaluated and also begin her kitten preventive care requirements suck as deworming and vaccines. Thank you for helping her!

Without examining and knowing how bad/what exactly is happening with Sam, it's hard to give specific advice. If he's still able to eat and drink, keeping the bowls close to him and at a height he can reach even while laying may help him stay eating. You may need to move him to litter or bring food to him if he is having trouble with balance and walking. If the eye is shut, keeping it clean and from sticking by wiping it with a way washcloth may help until it is healed. If Sam seems in a lot of pain, or can't eat and drink at all, I would bring him back to the vet. It may mean he needs additional pain meds or meds to help with the injury, or even IV fluids or medications to help keep his strength up until he can heal some.
